Céline Dion easily scores a second week at Number 1

Céline Dion celebrates a second consecutive week at Number 1 with My Heart Will Go On. The single is becoming one of the fastest-selling singles of 1998. It has already topped the charts in the United Kingdom, whilst it is climbing the Billboard 100 with rapid speed. On this list, the French-Canadian singer also maintains her crown position with ease. She faces slight competition from Run-DMC with It’s Like That, but Céline Dion is up ahead by miles.

Robyn scores her first Top 10-entry with Show Me Love. Robyn is a Swedish singer who is on her way to dominate the charts. Robyn started her career at age fifteen with Do You Really Want Me, which led to success in Sweden. Slowly, her music spread throughout Europe, resulting in numerous charting singles. Her proper breakthrough is yet to come, but is close, as her newest single Show Me Love is becoming an international success. The song is climbing the lists in the United Kingdom and in the United States. On this list, Show Me Love peaks at Number 8 this week.

Aaliyah scores her first Top 10-entry with The One I Gave My Heart To. The American singer has entered the list with small successes before, but she never managed to reach the Top 10. This week marks her first ever entry, as Aaliyah climbs to Number 10. The One I Gave My Heart To is her highest-peaking single to date, surpassing Back & Forth which peaked at Number 19 in early 1997. Aaliyah is one of the youngest singer-songwriters to ever chart within the Top 10, as she was only seventeen years old at the time of recording.

The Backstreet Boys score the highest debut of the week. The boys have already left a huge legacy on this list. The boy group kickstarted their career with We've Got It Goin' On in 1995, which was quickly followed by their first big success I'll Never Break Your Heart. The hit single became their first single to peak at Number 2, of which there would later be three, and amassed over 84,000 points. The single still holds as the boys’ best-scoring single and is one of the best-scoring singles of all time. More entries followed, including big hits such as Get Down (You're The One For Me) and Everybody (Backstreet's Back). Alongside Take That, the Backstreet Boys are the most successful boy groups on this list. It is therefore not out of the ordinary that the boys’ new single storms onto the list. All I Have to Give debuts at Number 16 this week.

Sheryl Crow celebrates a Gold Certification for Tomorrow Never Dies. The single was made for the James Bond-film of the same name starring Pierce Brosnan and Jonathan Pryce. The theme has become Sheryl Crow here most successful entry on this list, surpassing previous endeavors such as All I Wanna Do. As of this week, Tomorrow Never Dies has amassed over 40,000 points.

Robbie Williams receives a Gold Certification for Angels. The single only narrowly missed the Number 1-spot, kept off by Janet Jackson. The single is on its way to become one of Robbie Williams his biggest hits, with and without his career with Take That. As of this week, the lovely ballad has amassed over 40,000 points.

The Spice Girls celebrate a Platinum Certification for Too Much. The single was the girls’ seventh consecutive Number 1-hit, following big successes such as Wannabe and Say You’ll Be There. The song spent five weeks above the list and became the Christmas Number 1 of 1997. As of this week, the R&B-infused ballad has amassed over 65,000 points.
