“Greedy” becomes one of the longest-running Number 1s of the year

Tate McRae’s “Greedy” has quickly become one of the biggest hits of the year so far. It earned a solid debut at #3, before ascending to Number 1 in the following week. Five weeks later, “Greedy” now ties with Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers”, Goldband’s “Rommel” and Peggy Gou’s “It Goes Like (Nanana)” as the longest-running chart-topper of the year so far – all four songs spent five weeks leading the chart. Should Tate McRae extend her reign with one more week, she’ll take over the record solely. She does face some strong competition from Pommelien Thijs and Tyla in second and third, respectively.

Further down, Aussie pop icon Troye Sivan moves into the Top 10 with “One of Your Girls”, peaking at #5. It’s the third single from his new album Something To Give Each Other. The album was preceded by the lead single “Rush”, which became Sivan his first ever Top 10-hit on my personal list. The follow-up “Got Me Started” also reaches a new peak at #17. The real star of the new project, however, is “One of Your Girls” and its music video which features Sivan in drag and a smoking hot Ross Lynch. It moves up a whopping eleven spaces, earning Sivan his second Top 10-hit on my list.

Olivia Rodrigo made her comeback this year with the release of Guts, the highly anticipated follow-up to her debut Sour. It was preceded by “Vampire”, which debuted atop my personal chart and earned the Disney-alumni her fourth Number 1-single. The album’s second single “Bad Idea Right?” went Top 10 as well. Its third release “Get Him Back” was released alongside the album and initially debuted at #11, staying in that position for three consecutive weeks. This week, “Get Him Back” finally breaks into the Top 10, peaking at #10. It becomes Rodrigo her seventh Top 10-entry to date.

Charli XCX and Sam Smith team up on “In The City”, an up-tempo tech-house track that sounds exactly how you think a duet of theirs would sound. The two artists have been teasing a collaboration for a long time now; in the music video for Charli’s Top 10-hit “Speed Drive” Charli even hinted at an upcoming collaboration through a phone call with Smith. The single earns the highest debut of the week at #19. It becomes Charli XCX her landmark twentieth Top 40-hit – and her fourth this year! – while Sam Smith earns their twenty-third.

Australian rapper The Kid LAROI, South-Korean pop icon Jungkook and British rapper Central Cee meet up on “Too Much” at #26. It has been some time since we’ve seen the “Without You”-singer – he last charted inside my Top 40 with “Love Again” earlier this year with little commercial success. Maybe he’ll do better with the support of global stars Central Cee and Jungkook. Japanese-American newcomer Mitski debuts with her surprise breakthrough “My Love Mine All Mine” at #37. She’s been a household name in the indie-rock scene for a few years now, even receiving an Academy Award nomination for her contribution to the soundtrack for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Kris Kross Amsterdam round out the debuts with “Stay (Never Leave)” with Sera and Conor Maynard at #40. They again rework a big hit from the Noughties; this time it’s Lumidee’s 2003-hit “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh)”. Anne-Marie and Little Mix recently sampled the classic as well on the Top 10-hit “Kiss My (Uh-Oh)” in 2021.
