Harry Styles smashes opening records as “As It Was” debuts at #1, earning him his fifth Number 1-single

Supported by massive streaming figures and excessive promotion, Harry Styles debuts atop the chart with his new comeback single “As It Was”. It serves as the lead single from his upcoming third solo album Harry’s House, set to be released in May. Upon release, “As It Was” became a global streaming success, becoming the most-streamed song globally on Spotify in a single day for 2022 so far, with over 21.6 million streams. On this chart, “As It Was” becomes Harry Styles his fifth Number 1-record, following classic hits such as “Adore You” and “Watermelon Sugar”. It is his thirteenth overall Number 1-single, also counting the eight additional Number 1s he scored as a member of One Direction. Harry Styles dethrones the Dutch Antoon, whom spent three consecutive weeks atop the list with “Hallo”.

After a thrilling performance at Concert For Ukraine and with the release of Romance in sight, Camila Cabello & Ed Sheeran’s “Bam, Bam” moves up seven spaces to #10. It has been some time since we’ve last seen Camila Cabello in the Top 10 – back in early 2020 she peaked at #10 with “My Oh My”.  Ed Sheeran recently peaked at #8 with the holiday hit “Merry Christmas” alongside Elton John. Overall, “Bam, Bom” becomes Ed’s seventeenth Top 10-hit and Camila Cabello’s tenth solo Top 10-hit and sixteenth overall, also counting her hits with Fifth Harmony.

Further down, Shawn Mendes finally gloriously returns to the chart with “When You’re Gone”, debuting at #19. The new single – a thrilling pop-rock song presumably about his break-up with Camila Cabello – is supported by strong playlisting and streaming. “When You’re Gone” marks Shawn Mendes his first appearance inside the Top 20 since “Monster” peaked at #10 in 2020. Overall, the new song marks the Canadian pop star his seventeenth Top 40-hit.

Meanwhile, Dutch pop group Goldband re-enters the chart at a new peak with “Noodgeval” at #28. The single previously peaked at #33 in November 2021 and stayed on the charts for only  three weeks, supported by an acclaimed new music video. “Noodgeval” re-enters the chart this week after the success of Goldband’s national tour across The Netherlands. The newfound chart success is further boosted by their performance at the 3FM Awards.

Finally, American hit singer Kehlani debuts at #32 with “Up At Night” featuring Justin Bieber. They previously collaborated together on “Get Me” [#38] in 2020. It marks Kehlani’s second Top 40-hit while it is Justin Bieber’s forty-first. Joel Corry, David Guetta and Bryson Tiller all round out the list with “What Would You Do?”, debuting at #39. It becomes Joel Corry’s sixth Top 40-hit, following his big hits “I Wish” [#5] and “Head & Heart” [#1].
