Chart

“Kiss Me More” shoots to Number 1, earning Doja Cat her second chart-topper and SZA her very first

Doja Cat and SZA climb to Number 1 with their disco-anthem “Kiss Me More”. Lead singer Doja Cat earns her second chart-topper on this chart, following her breakout hit “Say So” earlier last year. Since then, the American singer has been steadily scoring Top 10-entries, such as “Streets” and “Like That”.  Meanwhile, the featured SZA scores her first ever Number 1-hit with “Kiss Me More”. She missed out on the top spot twice before, as “All the Stars” and “Good Days” both peaked at Number 2. Doja Cat and SZA dethrone Snelle and Maan’s “Blijven Slapen”, which spent six weeks atop the chart and is now the longest-running Number 1 of 2021 so far alongside Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license”.

This week its Top 10 has no new entries, although some other singles are on the verge of breaking into it. Marina (without the Diamonds) is eying another Top 10-entry with “Purge The Poison”, stranding at Number 11 this week, while Olivia Rodrigo’s “déjà vu” remains at Number 12 for a second consecutive week. Due to the success of her new Number 1-hit, SZA’s “Good Days” rebounds and could be looking at a re-entry into the Top 10 next week.

“Save Your Tears” by the Weeknd re-enters the list for a second time this year, following the new remix featuring Ariana Grande. The song already re-entered once, following the Weeknd his performance at the Super Bowl halftime show in February. So far, “Save Your Tears” has peaked at Number 10 and has scored over 50,000 points. With the help of Ariana Grande, the song might reach even bigger heights. “Save Your Tears” re-enters at Number 20 this week.

Aside from The Weeknd and Ariana Grande his re-entry, three other songs make their debut this week. Dutch duo Donnie & Frans Duijts enter the list with the comical “Frans Duits”, a play on the latter singer his name. The single is already a popular song in the Netherlands and has been shortlisted as the song of the summer by multiple critics. A bit further down, Dutch singer Tabitha debuts at Number 30 with her new single “Heel Veel Meer”, taken from her debut album Hallo Met Mij. At Number 38, we meet the Glass Animals and their breakout single “Heat Waves”. The song is already a big hit in Australia and the United Kingdom, with its success now slowly spreading into other European countries. The song is the group its first entry on this list.

Twenty years ago, the Spice Girls’ Emma Bunton scored her first solo Number 1 with “What Took You So Long?”. The honour the occasion, I’ve decided to take a look at that week’s chart and see what Baby Spice was up against. In that week, Emma faced tough competition from girl groups Atomic Kitten and Destiny’s Child. However, the ex-Spice Girl reigned victorious and debuted at Number 1 with incredible opening numbers. Meanwhile, pop icon Janet Jackson scored her second Top 10-hit with “Fall For You”. Further down the chart, Missy Elliott debuted with the modern classic “Get Ur Freak On” and Jennifer Lopez entered with “Play”. To see the entire Top 40 of April 27 2001, check this link.

Hey Link! :)
I love seeing 'Kiss Me More' as the new #1, as well as the re-entry for 'Save Your Tears' & the debut for 'Heat Waves'.
Awesome chart as usual!

Hey Link! It will come as no surprise that I really like your new #1, although I don't think "Kiss Me More" will make it to the top of my list. I also love the re-entry for "Save Your Tears" and the debut for "Frans Duits". Have a nice week!
