Doja Cat and SZA enter a second consecutive week at Number 1 with their disco-hit “Kiss Me More”. Coincidentally, Doja Cat also celebrates the one year-anniversary of her breakout single “Say So”, which peaked at Number 1 this week last year. Since then, the American singer has been steadily scoring Top 10-entries, such as “Streets” and “Like That”. However, Doja Cat and SZA face competition from Silk Sonic, whom enter a third consecutive week at Number 2 this week. British newcomer Tom Grennan also eyes the crown with his breakout hit “Little Bit of Love”.
British girl group Little Mix make a Top 10-debut with their newest single “Confetti”, taken from their sixth studio album of the same name. The single is the girls’ first song to not feature founding member Jesy Nelson, who has decided to leave the group last year to address her mental health issues. Instead, Little Mix are aided by American rapper Saweetie. We’ve last seen Saweetie on this chart with “Best Friend” alongside Doja Cat earlier this year, which became a minor Top 40-hit. With “Confetti” its new debut at Number 6, Little Mix earn their twenty-eighth Top 10-hit, extending the girls’ record as the girl group with the most Top 10-entries on this chart.
Aside from Little Mix and Saweetie their top debut, American pop icon Billie Eilish makes a top debut with her newest single “Your Power”. The teenager has been an incredible success act over the past few years, scoring Number 1s across the globe and swiping musical accolades left and right. Subsequently, the expectations for her sophomore album and follow-up to the best-seller When We All Fall Asleep are exceedingly high. Billie Eilish gave a preview of the album this week, announcing the name Happier Than Ever and releasing “Your Power” as the album its third official single following “my future” and “Therefore I Am”. The song debuts at Number 17 this week, earning the singer her twelfth Top 40-entry on this chart.
Two other songs make their debut this week. At Number 29, Dutch singer Jaap Reesema enters with his newest single “Alles Komt Goed”, the follow-up to his Number 1-hit “Nu Wij Niet Meer Praten” earlier this year. The single is already a Top 40-hit in the Netherlands and Belgium. At Number 37, British hit-producer Nathan Dawe debuts with “Way Too Long” featuring Anne-Marie and MoStack. He claimed gold-certified success earlier this year with “No Time For Tears” featuring Little Mix.
British band and chart phenomenon Coldplay return with their newest single “Higher Power” this week, which was written and produced by Max Martin, the man behind the successes of Britney Spears, Ariana Grande and *NSYNC just to name a few. To celebrate the occasion, I have decided to take a look at Coldplay their biggest hits to date. Over twenty years ago in 2000, Coldplay debuted with their single “Shiver” which went on to become a minor hit. Bigger success came with the follow-up “Yellow”, which peaked at Number 1 for two consecutive weeks. Since then, the band has been steadily scoring Top 10-hits. Some highlights include “Speed of Sound”, “The Scientist” and “Clocks”. In 2008, Coldplay debuted at Number 1 with “Viva la Vida”, which spent two consecutive weeks atop the chart. Funnily enough, their longest-running single is “Don’t Panic”, which didn’t peak at Number 1 – it stalled at Number 9 – but did spent twenty-six weeks inside the Top 40. In total, Coldplay earned three Number 1s, sixteen Top 10s and thirty-eight Top 40-hits. Check out the group’s Top 15 best-scoring singles in a list below this chart.
