MEAU claims the final Number 1 of 2021 with “Dat Heb Jij Gedaan”

Dutch indie-singer Meau rounds out the final chart of 2021 as her breakthrough song “Dat Heb Jij Gedaan” holds on to the Number 1 spot. Meau her first chart-topping single extends its reign atop the list for a second consecutive week, notching up over thirty combined streams. Meau fends off competition from Kris Kross Amsterdam their new collaboration “Vluchtstrook” with Antoon & Sigourney K, which stays in the runner-up position for a second week. Adele rounds out the Top 3 with her comeback Number 1-hit “Easy on Me”, which vaults back to third place.

With the Christmas singles dropping down or out of the chart, many songs return to the Top 10. Joel Corry & Mabel’s “I Wish” returns to its original peak at Number 5, while SZA jumps up seven spaces with “I Hate U”, reaching a new peak at Number 6. Adele’s “Oh My God” climbs back to Number 9, while Dutch singer Yade Lauren rounds out the Top 10 with “In De Nacht”. The only Christmas single to remain inside the Top 10 is “Home to You (This Christmas)” by Sigrid, which drops to Number 7. The holiday single is supported by streaming success between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

Irish singer Dermot Kennedy jumps up seven places with his new single “Better Days”, landing at Number 8. It marks his highest peak to date, surpassing his other two Top 10-hits “Paradise” [#9] and “Power Over Me” [#10]. The single is already a big hit in his native Ireland and Great Britain. Additionally, “Better Days” recently entered the Dutch Spotify Top 50 and is predicted to enter the national hit parade soon.

The highest debut of the week is scored by Turfy Gang with their viral hit “Buren”. Turfy Gang is a student fraternity from the Netherlands, who enjoy making music for the fun and extra cash. Their new single “Buren”, in which the boys apologize to their neighbours for the loud partying, recently went viral on TikTok and attracted streaming success. The viral hit debuts at Number 17 on my personal chart, marking the boys’ first Top 40-hit.

Further down, Silk Sonic and Tiësto with Ava Max re-enter the Top 40 with “Smoking Out the Window” and “The Motto”, respectively. Both singles were initially pushed out of the chart by the Christmas singles. Silk Sonic peak at Number 22, while Tiësto and Ava Max reach Number 27. Meanwhile, the Purple Disco Machine earn their second Top 40-hit with “Dopamine” feat. Eyelar, debuting at Number 30. Canadian teen-singer Tate McRae enters the list at Number 36 with “Feel Like Shit”; the highly-anticipated follow-up to her breakthrough hit “You Broke Me First”. At Number 38, Scottish producer Ewan McVidar debuts with his remixed version of the 1974-hit “Tell Me Something Good” by Rufus & Chaka Khan. BRIT Rising Star-winner Holly Humberstone closes the Top 40 with “The Walls Are Way Too Thin”, taken from her acclaimed EP of the same name.
