Shakira and Bizarrap enter a second consecutive week at Number 1 with their eponymous collaboration. It is supported by an incredible live performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, marking Shakira her first televised live show since her Super Bowl LIV with Jennifer Lopez. The single remains one of the biggest in the world right now according to current streaming figures. Shakira and Bizarrap do face though competition this week, as Miley Cyrus charges back to the top with “Flowers”, the lead single of her new studio album Endless Summer Vacation, which was released last week. It previously has spent five weeks at Number 1, giving Cyrus her longest-running chart-topper to date. Could it extend the record to six weeks? Perhaps, if it’s streaming figures are able to exceed Shakira’s. “Flowers” does currently stand as the biggest record of 2023 so far.
The Weeknd and Ariana Grande soar to brand new heights with “Die For You (Remix)”, peaking at #6 this week. The pop song was originally recorded for The Weeknd his third studio album Starboy, but it recently went viral and became a surprise sleeper hit. He has now remixed the single with Ariana Grande. The duo have previously worked together on “Love Me Harder” and “Save Your Tears”, of which the former debuted at Number 1 while the latter became their biggest-scoring duet. “Die For You (Remix)” marks The Weeknd his fifteenth Top 10-hit, while Ariana Grande earns her twenty-eighth.
We appear to have a full-blown Shakira renaissance on our hands, as her new collaboration “TQG” with Karol G peaks at #9 this week. The single is supported by the success of Shakira her current Number 1, but also by Karol G’s incredible new album Mañana Será Bonito, which topped the Billboard Hot 200. “TQG” has become an immediate worldwide hit, topping the worldwide charts and smashing streaming record left and right. “TQG” marks a new career high for Karol G, as the single outperforms her previous Top 10-hit “Tusa” with Nicki Minaj, which peaked at #10 in 2020. Meanwhile, Shakira quietly collects her twenty-third Top 10-peak.
Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding score the highest debut of this week with “Miracle”, entering at #13. The single is a straight up trance song with an enticing Eurodance beat. The single is very reminiscent of Robert Miles his 1996-hit “Children” and other dance songs of the late 1990s. “Miracle” marks Harris and Goulding their third collaboration to date – they previously came together on 2013’s “I Need Your Love” and the 2014 Number 1-smash “Outside”. Since then, both acts have enjoyed major chart success. Harris has earned seven Number 1-hits, including last year’s “Potion” with Dua Lipa, while Goulding went multi-platinum with “Love Me Like You Do” and is anticipating to release her fifth studio album soon. It is great to see this duo on the charts once more. Harris earns his thirty-eight Top 40-entry while Goulding collects her twenty-fifth.
Only a few places down, Miley Cyrus debuts with the follow-up to “Flowers”: the striking “River”. The Kylie Minogue-esque pop song is the official second single of her new album Endless Summer Vacation. It is off to a strong start at #17. Further down, Beninese-born Nigerian young talent debuts at #29 with her breakthrough single “Rush”. It currently has amassed over 100 million views on YouTube. At #35, Dutch rapper Maks makes his debut with “Dyscalculie”, a fun song that is a popular hit amongst students right now. American singer-songwriter and Top 40-newcomer Lizzy McAlpine rounds out the newest entries at #39 with “ceilings”.
