Sam Fender and Olivia Dean make “Rein Me In” the longest-running #1 of the year

Following a spectacular Number 1-debut – the first of 2025 to be exact – Sam Fender and Olivia Dean easily hold the crown position for a sixth week. Their duet “Rein Me In” opened at the top of my list with the highest opening numbers of 2025 so far. Sam Fender and Olivia Dean first debuted their duet live on June 6, 2025, during Sam Fender his headline show at London Stadium, where Olivia Dean was one of two supporting acts during the show. It was originally included on his third album People Watching, which spawned two Number 1-songs; the title track and “Little Bit Closer”. “Rein Me In” marks Sam Fender his seventh chart-topper on this list, tying the North Shields-born singer with Justin Timberlake as the male artist with the second most #1s of all time. Meanwhile, Olivia Dean earned her first Number 1-record. With six weeks and counting, “Rein Me In” becomes the longest-running #1 of 2025 so far, tying with Pommelien Thijs’s “Atlas”, which also notched up six weeks at the top. It also becomes Sam Fender his longest-running Number 1-hit to date, surpassing “People Watching” which spent five non-consecutive weeks atop my chart.

Dutch pop sensation Roxy Dekker continues her streak of hit singles as “Hoe Het Is” moves up twelve places to a new peak at #7 this week. The certified star broke through in 2023 with the Antoon-penned “Satisfyer”, before shooting straight to Number 1 with “Sugardaddy” and follow-up “Gaan We Weg?” in 2024. Earlier this year, the Amsterdam-based star released her highly anticipated debut album, also including her previous singles, and earned a #3-debut for new single “Casual”. Determined to uphold that steady stream of success, Roxy Dekker now teams up with hip hop singer Idaly on “Hoe Het Is”. We best recognize Idaly from his breakout role on the New Wave project and the platinum certified hit “Wine Slow (Remix)”. With this fortunate team-up, Idaly bags his first Top 10-hit in over seven years.  Also joining the house-infused single, is hip hop icon Ronnie Flex – with eight Number 1s and sixty-four Top 40-songs, he is one of the greatest of all time. Ronnie Flex and Roxy Dekker have previously worked together on the prementioned “Gaan We Weg?”, while Ronnie Flex and Idaly have appeared on my chart together four times before.

Girl groups are on the up again – finally! While KATSEYE break the Top 20 for the first time with the sultry “Gabriela”, South-Korean pop sensation Blackpink finally earn their first ever Top 10-hit on my chart with “Jump” up at #9. Consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, Blackpink debuted in 2016 in South-Korea with a string of hit singles off two single albums. They then became industry players on an international level with their hits “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”, “Kill This Love” and “How You Like That”. Blackpink has been credited with helping K-pop cross over to the West, headlined Coachella Festival and they topped the Billboard Global 200. Their Born Pink Tour has gone on to become the highest-grossing concert tour by a female group. It’s crazy to think that Blackpink has not broken my Top 10 before. “Jump” is Blackpink their first release in nearly three years and debuted atop Spotify its daily songs chart. During their sort-of hiatus, the Blackpink girls went solo with varying results. Jisoo went solo with “Flowers”, while Rosé achieved big international success with “APT.”, though both did not crack this Top 40. Lisa worked with RAYE and Doja Cat on the Top 40-hit “Born Again” and Jennie scored four Top 40-singles off her debut album Ruby, including a #11-peak for “Mantra” and a new collaboration with Dua Lipa.

Blackpink’s “Jump” becomes the first single by a girl group to reach my personal Top 10 in four years – the last being Little Mix their collaboration “Kiss My (Uh Oh)” with Anne-Marie from 2021. Little Mix’s “Sweet Melody” ranks as the best-scoring single by a girl group from the 2020s; an era that has significantly featured less hits by girl group than in the previous decades. “Sweet Melody” spent five weeks at #2 and reached double platinum status. Little Mix’s other successful singles from this decade include “Heartbreak Anthem” and “Confetti”, all released with Jesy Nelson. The 2020s also saw the short-lived breakthrough of FLO, who scored a Top 20-hit with “Cardboard Box” and Haim their most successful single in recent years with “Down to be wrong”. And that’s pretty much it! A big cry away from The Spice Girls’, Sugababes’ or Girls Aloud’s heyday.

Further down, Australian electro pop phenomenon Confidence Man finally earn their first Top 40-hit as “Gossip” earns the highest new debut of this week at #20. Led by Janet Planet and Sugar Bones, the campy pop act has been on the up in the indie music ever since their 2018-debut album. “Holiday” off their second album Tilt was a certified banger and helped Confidence Man book several festival gigs across the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia, including Lowlands and Down the Rabbit Hole in the Netherlands. This festival season, they played Glastonbury Festival. Not only did they smash their own set at The Levels, Confidence Man also joined JADE during her set in The Woodsies to surprise fans with “Gossip”, a cunty collaboration with an unforgettable guitar riff. It’s an easy shew-in for this week’s top entry. We of course best recognize JADE for being one-fourth of Little Mix and her break-out solo “Angel of My Dreams”. Her solo debut album is set to be released later this summer.

Thanks to Blackpink’s jump into the Top 10, solo track “like JENNIE” by Jennie resurges and returns to my list at #27, already outperforming the song’s original chart run earlier this year. Emma Heesters proves she hasn’t forgotten her pop sensibilities on the disco-laced “Levenslang” at #29. After battling cervical cancer last year, Emma Heesters recently announced she has beaten the cancer and is getting better, thus the celebratory new single. She previously detailed her personal hardships on the Top 5-hit “Alles Wordt Beter”, which became her best-scoring single in four years. Meanwhile, with “Zaazaa” still steadily at #2, Frenna already lines up his next hit with “In Love With Us” new at #34. He teams up with Dutch hip hop singer Yade Lauren, best known for her Top 10-hits “Als Ik Je Niet Zie” with Kevin or “In De Nacht”. Tyler the Creator rounds out the Top 40 this week with his new song “Ring, Ring, Ring” taken from his new ninth studio album Don't Tap the Glass. It marks the talented rapper his third Top 40-entry on here.
