Singer and guitarist Steve Lacy soars to Number 1 with breakout hit “Bad Habit”

With incredible streaming figures and playlisting, Steve Lacy soars to Number 1 with his breakthrough single “Bad Habit”. The young talent first gained prominence as the guitarist of the R&B group The Internet, after which he released his debut extended play titled Steve Lacy's Demo. Success continued with his debut album Apollo XXI, and most recently, his sophomore album Gemini Rights. His newest single “Bad Habit” has been a runaway hit upon release, reaching the charts in the United States and the United Kingdom. On my personal list, Steve Lacy dethrones Beyoncé, whom spent one week at Number 1 with “Break My Soul”.

Meanwhile, Sam Fender peaks in the Top 10 with his B-side single “Alright”, finishing at #10 this week. The song was originally meant to be included on Fender’s hit album Seventeen Going Under, but was ultimately cut before release. The track, however, remained a favourite and received a proper release. It marks Sam Fender his eighth Top 10-single on my personal chart. It is also his fourth consecutive Top 10-single. Earlier this year, the North Shields-singer peaked at #6 with “Getting Started”, taken from the highly successful Seventeen Going Under.

Further down, Rosalía moves up eight places to #13 with the summer feel-good hit “DESPECHÁ”. The single is quickly gaining streaming figures, which could earn the Spanish singer her third Top 10-single next week. Mabel’s “Let Love Go” moves up one spot to a new peak at #14, while the viral “Glimpse of Us” by Japanese singer Joji returns to the Top 20 and simultaneously reaches a new high at #17. Doja Cat and Harry Styles fill out the Top 20 with “Vegas” and “As It Was” respectively.

Molokan-Dutch young talent Zoë Tauran earns the highest debut of the week with “Gebruik Me”, which features SFB-rapper and hitmaker Frenna. Zoë Tauran first gained prominence as a member of the girl group TP4Y, who performed on Holland’s Got Talent. She later went solo and featured on songs with Dutch rappers CHO, Jonna Fraser and Bilal Wahib. This year, Zoë Tauran released her debut solo single “Solo”, which performed very well on Dutch Spotify and peaked at #32 on my personal list. Her follow-up “Gebruik Me” is off to a great start already, debuting at #25, already out-performing its predecessor. Zoë Tauran is supported by Frenna, best known for his Top 10-hits “Laten Gaan”, “Verleden Tijd” and the Number 1-smash “Energie” with Ronnie Flex.

British YouTuber and singer KSI debuts at #36 with “Not Over Yet”, his new single with Tom Grennan. The single marks the first record under Atlantic Records. This is not KSI’s first collaboration with a well-established singer such as Tom Grennan; he previously worked with Craig David, Anne-Marie and Digital Farm Animals. Finally, The Black Eyed Peas round out the Top 40 with “Don’t You Worry”. They are supported by the incredible Shakira, who previously assisted them on the Top 40-hit “Girl Like Me”.
