Sophie Ellis-Baxtor returns to the Top 3 for the first time in 22 years

Noah Kahan continues to lead the Top 40 with two singles: “Stick Season” for a sixth consecutive week and “Homesick” with Sam Fender. Both singles continue to perform exceptionally well. “Stick Season” is on its way to become one of the longest-running male solo Number 1s of all time. Harry Styles holds the record at nine weeks with “As It Was”. Meanwhile, he faces competition from Sophie Ellis-Baxtor, who returns to the Top 3 with her 22-year-old classic “Murder on the Dancefloor”. It resurged on the charts following its appearance in the final scene of the film Saltburn. With its newfound popularity, “Murder on the Dancefloor” is now certified triple platinum. It ranks as one of the best-scoring songs of the 2000s.

As he bests Sophie Ellis-Bextor with two songs, Noah Kahan also enters the Top 10 with a third single – “Dial Drunk” featuring Post Malone. It was Stick Season, the album, its third single and originally released in July last year. The song is about a man who is arrested and needs to call his ex to bail him out. A hurtful yet upbeat song, “Dial Drunk” was well received upon release and was remixed to feature Post Malone. It is the latest pop hit for the American rapper, joining the likes of “Chemical”. As “Dial Drunk” peaks at #8 this week, Noah Kahan earns his third consecutive Top 10-hit, while Post Malone earns his landmark tenth Top 10-hit.

Two of the biggest Australian pop icons of all time are, undoubtedly, Sia and Kylie Minogue. Sia has scored a string of big hits in the 2010s, including numerous collaborations with David Guetta. Her big hit “Cheap Thrills” hit Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, Kylie has been steadily been in the pop charts since the 1980s. Last year, she had a comeback with “Padam, Padam”, which became a Number 1 on my personal list. Sia and Kylie Minogue now join forces, coming together on “Dance Alone”. Sia and Minogue had previously collaborated on the latter's twelfth album Kiss Me Once. The upbeat disco song earns the highest debut of the week, entering at #18. It marks Sia her first Top 40-entry since 2020’s “Let’s Love”.

In 2022, Beyoncé made her long awaited comeback with Renaissance, a house-inspired album and the first of a trilogy of albums. This week, after starring in a Super Bowl LVIII commercial for Verizon, Beyoncé announced the double A-sided lead single for the second album of the trilogy: “Texas Hold ‘Em” / “16 Carriages”. The single debuts at #25 this week, with only three full days of tracking. It becomes her forty-seventh Top 40-hit. The previous lead single, “Break My Soul”, became a record-setting phenomenon on my personal chart. It became her eighth Number 1-hit and made her the first artist to score a Number 1 in three consecutive decades. If “Texas Hold ‘Em” can replicate that level of success, is yet to be seen.

Noah Kahan cannot seem to get enough, as his new single “Forever” debuts at #29. It marks his fifth Top 40-entry on my personal chart. It has been included on the expanded edition of his hit album Stick Season, which features all remix collaborations and three new songs. French popstar Aya Nakamura returns to the charts with her new song “Hypé” at #33. Between 2018 and 2021, she scored a string of cross-over hits, including the Number 1-smash “Djadja”.

To celebrate Noah Kahan his unmatched success atop the summit, I have decided to rank the longest-running male solo Number 1s of all time. Harry Styles leads the list with “As It Was” which spent nine weeks atop my chart. Olly Murs & Flo Rida’s “Troublemaker” and Antoon his “Hyperventilatie”  both rank second, having crowned the chart for seven weeks. Noah Kahan joins the shared third place as “Stick Season” enters a sixth week at Number 1. He ties with Juanes’s “La Camisa Negra” and Harry Styles’s “Watermelon Sugar”, which also total six weeks. Women appear to have more success atop my personal chart. Dua Lipa holds the longest-running Number 1 of all time with “New Rules”, which spent thirteen weeks leading the chart. Cheryl Cole and the Spice Girls also surpass Harry Styles’s nine week-stint by multiple weeks.
