The Spice Girls maintain their Number 1-position for a sixth consecutive week with Spice Up Your Life. The single is the girls’ sixth chart-topper on this list, following massive successes such as Who Do You Think You Are and Mama. The girls fight off strong competition from Buckshot LeFonque, who peaks at Number 2 with his dance-influenced bop Another Day.
All Saints score their first Top 10-entry with Never Ever. The song was last week’s highest debut. All Saints is an English-Canadian girl group consisting of Melanie Blatt, Shaznay Lewis, Nicole Appleton and Natalie Appleton. The girls initially struggled to find commercial success, but their newest hit Never Ever is making them an international sensation. The single already peaked at Number 1 on the UK Official Charts and the Australian Charts. The girls are becoming a massive hit throughout Europe and more success is expected to come soon. On this list, All Saints’ Never Ever peaks at Number 3 this week.
Natalie Imbruglia scores her first Top 10-entry with Torn. The song was originally released by the Danish Lis Sørensen, whom later passed the song on for other artists to record. Many artists have released the song as their own, but none made the ballad an outstanding success. That’s until the Australian Natalie Imbruglia released Torn. Miss Imbruglia covered the song for her debut studio album “Left of the Middle”, later releasing it as the album’s lead single. Torn already peaked at Number 2 in the United Kingdom and in Australia. On this list, Natalie Imbruglia peaks at Number 9 this week.
Shola Ama scores the highest debut of the week. The English singer has entered the list three times before, debuting with You Might Need Somebody earlier this year. The song went on to become Shola Ama her biggest hit to date, peaking at Number 3 and amassing over 58,000 points. She then released You’re The One I Love, which did not match the success of its predecessor but still became a modest Top 20-hit. Shola Ama returns with Who's Loving My Baby, entering at Number 27.
Wes receives a Gold Certification for his happy hit Alane. The song became the Cameroonian singer his breakthrough, reaching Number 1 in multiple countries worldwide. On this list, Wes peaked at Number 4 and spent ten highly successful weeks within the Top 10. As of this week, the single has amassed over 40,000 points.
