Effervescence - April 4th, 2024

Welcome along back to Effervescence!

Noteworthy cultural notes for this week:

  • We've got a rare week where nothing requires any throwback entries this week. So, what has happened is some of the tracks I've had 'bubbling under' for the past few weeks have actually jumped into a chart position this week. Yay!

Heads up for the next couple of weeks:

  • Next week's chart (April 11th) is my birthday week chart so expect some random favorites of mine included. I will be as random, as usual, in the selections
  • The week after (April 19th) will be St. Georges Day week so include some of the very best songs of all time by English artists!

Hi there Maxon!

Nice to see "Obsessed" at the top, "Simple Life" and "Waking Up" reaching the top 10, the big gain for "La Noia" (BTW, speaking of Eurovision, what do you think about Switzerland being now the odds on favourite to win this year?) and the debut for "Outside Of Love".

Great chart!
Take care.

Ahoy there, Sergej!

I was just about to drop a comment on your new countdown. Will be over shortly!

I figured you'd be enjoying the Now Top 10 gains for 'Simple Life' and 'Waking Up'. If the latter takes any longer to wake up it'll be peaking in around July I reckon. It's been a slow burn but I believe it may have gained every week since it arrived on Effervescence. The definition of a chart heater! The next couple of weeks will be tough for current hits to stay relevant as it's my birthday week, then St. Georges which will cause large throwback diversions. All is fair though in love and chart war.

Yeah, the Eurovision PreParty Live season began last weekend and the performance of 'The Code' has sent the community into meltdown. A week ago Croatia was holding the favorite position, Italy had squeezed past Ukraine for 2nd favorite, and Netherlands and Switzerland were jostling each other to round out the top 5. Well, what a difference the Madrid PreParty had! Nemo is not clear by 6% points! I look forward to seeing the remaining live tour performances all the way into May to see how it continues to affect the odds. I am not surprised at the popularity of Switzerland, Croatia, or Netherlands. They are pure televote bait but all three of them also hold some jury-pleasing lyrics/meaning. Ukraine is a decent track but for me, it is up there in the odds still mainly for a sympathy vote due to the travesties they continue to put up with. Italy's 'La noia' is gonna be the track to beat I think. It's very Italian, a bop for the televote and performed to perfection by Angelina. It could of course all change again. I hope Croatia gets it as they haven't before and 'Rim Tim Tagi' Dim' is easily the best song they've probably ever sent. Let's crown a new Champion with a small-town farm boy total rags to riches story! My fav is obviously Austria's 'We Will Rave' and I think it's 10th place in the odds is probably about right. It's going to be a very entertaining show come game day but I don't think Kaleen's song will necessarily have enough to get the jury points it needs to genuinely challenge. It's a very surface-level dance banger.

I'm going to end this essay there. I could talk about music for hours, haha.

Appreciate you stopping by. Thank you!

Hey Maxon! :)

Glad to see 'Obsessed' become the new #1 & 'Outside Of Love' debut just beneath the Top 10.

Good chart!

Uh, uh, uh… Ahoy, Maxon!

Yeah-yeah, I guess again that a lot of debuts were found on Official UK Singles Chart. 😁

Okay, glad to see the songs that I ever seen anywhere: #1 "Obsessed" (Nate Smith looks 🤨😏🤔 to his fellow citizen); #2 "We Will Rave"; #5 "When I'm Gone"; #9 "Sinceramente"; #10 "Waking Up"; #12 "Never Be Alone"; #14 "Rim Tim Tagi Dim"; #18 "Lonely Dancers"; #19 "Love Hurt Repeat"; #24 "Never Be Lonely"; #26 "Beat of Your Heart"; #27 "Before the Party is Over"; #30 "Birds in the Sky"; #33 "Make You Mine"; #36 "Lighter".

I'm not surprised of your debut on pos. #34. After the first play I added this song to my playlist, but now I am annoyed by the unjustified popularity in the world charts. But Nate Smith is not… 😭😭😭

What do you think about Koe Wetzel's last single?

Thanks for your new chart and have a good mood!

Ahoy, Alex!

Let's see, most of these new tracks have been bubbling under for a number of weeks and with no reason for throwbacks in this week's Effervescence, they got a chance to nab a spot this week.

'All I've Got' has not been a hit anywhere. I doubt many people have even heard of it. I follow them so when this single dropped a few weeks back it has been in my rotation and has a fun summer dance vibe similar to Galantis' music.

'Not Even Love' is another track I have not heard anywhere. I doubt it was ever in contention in any chart aside from possibly dance charts. I follow Illenium so it came across my radar and as with the former track has been a song on my playlist for a couple of weeks now.

'Dilemma' is not a particularly new track. I think it came out in December prior to the latest Green Day album. I have perked up to it again this past week due to it being the new #1 in the Billboard 'Rock & Alternative Airplay' chart this week. I really like the latest Green Day stuff and am impressed with how compatible it is with everything they have previously done. I doubt you'll see this chart in any Top 40 charts

'favorite' is brand new this week. Isabel LaRosa is an American singer-songwriter and relatively new on my radar and I have been enjoying this track this week. It's a good sound not found in too many other things recently. LaRosa had a decent-sized hit in 2022 but has not hit many charts since. Randomly the New Zealand chart is where she has managed the most chart success.

'i like the way you kiss me' you pretty much hit the nail on the head with your thoughts later in your comment. It's a good low-key dance track that snuck up on my becoming a hit before I'd even heard of it. That's kind of rare. I like it enough though don't expect it to do major damage unless I end up hearing it all summer in the charts. You never know. This was absolutely from the Official Chart in the UK.

'Weak' is a track I have been enjoying for a few weeks now. You'd be surprised how close it had been to debuting in my chart ever since it was released in January. I am thrilled to finally get it in this week. As far as I am aware, it has not had any chart success anywhere.

'Elevate' is a dance banger. I listened to CRW's 'I Feel Love' a long way back in the early noughties and this track heavily samples that. It should have debuted on my chart weeks ago but for whatever reason it never did. I follow Lewis Thompson (see: 'Love Hurt Repeat' one of my songs of the year so far) which is how I discovered it. While I consider the track extremely radio-friendly and therefore could easily have been picked up on radio playlists and gained chart success, it wasn't so it didn't.

'Deserve Each Other' similarly is another track I have been enjoying for a while which I'm happy to finally include. bludnymph is an interesting artist. This track is a pure pop bop and absolutely should have had more mainstream exposure. I don't even think she has her own Wikipedia page yet. The most commercial hit she has so far is being the featured vocalist for Chainsmokers song 'Self Destruction Mode' last summer, though I don't think that charted anywhere either.

I probably don't need to address 'Outside of Love' as its Becky Hill.

I have been following Alan Walker for ages too. 'Team Side' was recently released as a team anthem for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the cricket Indian Premier League. Both Walker and featured artist Lofoten are Norweigan. Yes, the song is predominantly in English but also includes Hindi. As you know I am partial to a bit of Indian music here and there so this is a crossover I greatly appreciate and while I don't care too much for cricket, the track is an ab solute banger and is pure Walker with additional crowd-pumping elements which I can relate due to a hefty interest in the football English Premier League and World Cup of course!

The new Koe Wetzel song is fine. I'm not a huge country fan so it's unlikely to buzz too much for me.

There's your big read for the week. Thanks as always for stopping by and for the comment.
