The Red 50

A little early, to be sure, but the U.S. Election took a lot out of me, and I decided to complete this week's Red 50 early, as a means of getting a jump on recovering from it all.

- No real surprises with the top two, as Ghost and Highly Suspect hold steady at #1 and #2, respectively. The big noise is right below it, as Kings of Leon move into the top three with "Waste a Moment". While it likely won't be going higher than #3, there's always a chance...
- Metallica have done it! For the first time since Korn pulled off the feat nearly four years ago, a band has placed two songs in the Red 50 top five. "Hardwired" remains at #4, while "Moth Into Flame" roars into the top five at #5. One hell of an accomplishment, considering how rare of a feat it is.
- K.Flay and The Weeknd are the new arrivals into the top ten this week, as "Blood in the Cut" leapfrogs "Starboy" and solidifies its place as a future #1 contender...
- Some songs inside the top 20 are making strides toward an inevitable high peak, with the likes of The Moth & The Flame, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Disturbed all making nice moves...
- The largest jump, as was the case last week, belongs to a song that debuted the previous week: "Blood" by Dropkick Murphys is up nine spots to #30.
- The "three debuts" streak starts anew! (Probably.) The highest debut, in a week with yet another Metallica debut, belongs to the artist they joined in the earlier rare feat, with Korn debuting their latest, "Take Me", at #44. As an aside, I have to wonder if any artist/band has had three songs on this countdown at the same time like Metallica do right now. That might be a first.
- Unlike last week, there are some notable dropouts. Seemingly attached at the hip, including inside the top two, where they battled for over a month for the top spot, former #1s "Doing It To Death" and "Burn the Witch" also drop out of the Red 50 at the same time. How fitting...
