We have made it to the end of 2024 and it's definitely been a year. Music wise, it has been a year that many artists decided to release new albums much to my excitement. I have discovered new artists this year, such as Chappell Roan, and have continued to listen to many of the same artists I have listened to in years past.
As I have done last year, I have compiled my top 50 songs that I listened to the most in 2024. Songs that have been listened to the same amount as another song went head-to-head in a tie breaker (I simply just chose one over the other).
Also, I will be changing up how I do my charts in the new year. There will be a complete visual redesign and there will be some rules put into place. One such rule is that only one non-single album track may appear from an album at a time. As it stood, I often had the same artist appear on the same chart three or four times which became a bit much. Therefore, to allow for more artists to appear, the rule mentioned above will go into effect the first chart of 2025.
But, let's worry about the end of 2024 first, shall we?
Coming in at #1 is actually a surprise to me: Carly Pearce's "oklahoma". Admittedly, I am not the biggest Carly Pearce listener, however, I absolutely love "oklahoma" and played it a bunch this year. It's the only song from Hummingbird that I return to. A close second place goes to Dua Lipa's "Falling Forever" which was played only once less time than "oklahoma" so it was tight competition. Newcomer Benson Boone takes the third spot with "Pretty Slowly" and is followed by Taylor Swift's "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart". The top five rounds out with Sabrina Carpenter's summer hit, "Espresso".
Several artists make numerous appearances on the Year-End chart. Sabrina Carpenter appears five times with "Espresso", "Juno", "Taste", "Feather" and "Please Please Please", making her one of my most listened to artists of 2024. Dua Lipa follows closely behind with four songs appearing on the chart from her album Radical Optimism with "Falling Forever", "Training Season", "Illusion" and "Houdini". Kylie Minogue appears three times on the chart with "Lights Camera Action", "Good as Gone" and "Someone for Me" from her newest album Tension II. Another three-timer is Ariana Grande with "we can't be friends (wait for your lover)", "yes, and?", and "bye" from her album eternal sunshine.
Taylor Swift makes two appearances on the chart with "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart" and "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?". Beyoncé also appears twice with "TEXAS HOLD 'EM" and "AMERIICAN REQUIEM". Other artists who appear twice are JADE, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Jennifer Lopez, and Sara Evans. That leaves only 19 songs by artists who appear only once on the chart. That is partially why I want to change up the chart for next year to give more artists time to shine.
Thank you to everyone who has followed my charts this past year (although considering the lack of engagement, that's probably very few). Let's see what we have in store for 2025!
