ShufflePlay 40

KT TUNSTALL is once again No. 1 on the ShufflePlay 40 as “Maybe It’s A Good Thing” spends its tenth consecutive week on top of the chart. It’s the fifth song this decade to reach double digit weeks in the pole position following two hits by LADY GAGA, “Telephone” with BEYONCE, which held the top for 15 weeks in 2010, and THE EDGE OF GLORY, which had 14 weeks here a year later, SCOTT HELMAN’s “Bungalow”, which had 13 weeks in 2014-15 and WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS’ “Fortune” for 19 weeks.

“Maybe It’s A Good Thing” is the 16th song in ShufflePlay history to spend 10 or more weeks at No. 1. The first song to reach that milestone was “Before You” by CHANTAL KREVIAZUK, who did it in late 1999 into 2000. That song spent 10 weeks at the top and held the longevity record for two years when JEWEL bested her by a week with “Standing Still” in late 2001 into 2002. MATCHBOX TWENTY surpassed her in the summer of 2003 with “Bright Lights”, a No. 1 for 13 weeks and record holder until early 2005 when AVRIL LAVIGNE took “Nobody’s Home” to No. 1 for a record smashing 17 weeks. AVRIL held that record for nearly ten years until the aforementioned WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS shattered it in 2014 with “Fortune”, which stayed at the top for 19 weeks. KT TUNSTALL would have to double her time at No. 1 in order to own this record.

Slowly seeping into the record books is LADY GAGA who hangs in at No. 2 for an eighth week with “Million Reasons”. As has been mentioned in recent weeks, GAGA is close to owning the record herself if she holds again for one more week. Right now, she ties to record with SERENA RYDER and ADELE, both of whom have held at No. 2 for 8 weeks without ever reaching NO. 1 with “Little Bit Of Red” and “Someone Like You” respectably.

DRAGONETTE moves 4-3 with “Sweet Poison”, matching the peak of their most recent hit “Lonely Heart”. ADELE continues advancing up the chart with “Water Under The Bridge”, by moving 6-4 and YEARS & YEARS rounds out the Top 5 with “Meteorite”, falling 3-5.

The only entry in the Top 10 is “Not Easy”, the first Top 10 for half of the artists on the track. “Not Easy” is ALEX DA KID’s first single but each of the others have charted prior to this. X AMBASSADORS made it to No. 5 last year with “Renegades”, ELLE KING’s previous highest charting song was “Under The Influence”, which made it as high as No. 18 about a year ago, and WIZ KHALIFA matches his previous peak of No. 10 as featured act on MAROON 5’s “Payphone”.

Scottish singer/songwriter AMY MACDONALD has the highest entry with the lead single from her upcoming new album “Under Stars”. “Down By The Water” jumps in at No. 15. It’s a lower bow compared to “Slow It Down”, the lead single from her last album, which entered at No. 3. AMY has had four No. 1s on ShufflePlay since her first “This Is The Life” in 2009. “This Pretty Face”, “Spark” and “Slow It Down” were her others.
