Welcome back to Effervescence! There is so much great music around at the moment. The avenues to include songs right now are plentiful! As mentioned last week, there was a lot of great music released for public consumption last Friday in addition to some of the noteworthy cultural reasons to highlight music listed below. The key is to cram it all in! Quick PSA for fun and games next week - we'll be celebrating Comic Relief on Friday, March 15th, and then of course St. Patrick's Day is on Sunday, March 17th. Next week's chart (March 14th) might get a little festive for both occasions!
Noteworthy cultural notes for this week:
- More Eurovision Song Contest songs won their National Final or were announced this past week. This brings us to 30 of the 37 entrants. We're closing in on the Endgame now!
- Speaking of Eurovision, the finalist songs from Melodifestivalen 2024, Sweden's National competition to find their Eurovision entry were finally released
- The BRIT Awards crowned their champions for 2024 last Saturday night. Raye most notably returning to Effervescence
- Liam Gallagher (Oasis) and John Squire (Stone Roses) released their collaboration album this week
- Friday, March 8th is International Women's Day. I mark the occasion with THREE picks from all-women supergroup collaborations
- The UK will celebrate Mother's Day on Sunday, March 10th. I have included a song called 'Journey of You and I' from Kodi Lee this week which he wrote and dedicated to his mother. For those who don't know who Kodi Lee is, he is legally blind, autistic, and has Addison's disease. He rose to fame as a contestant and ultimately winner of America's Got Talent Season 14 (2019). Lee has gone on to become a successful songwriter, pianist, and savant. He wrote this song to show his appreciation to his mother who has accompanied him through every stage of his accomplishments in the past five years which allows Kodi to live the life he does. 'Journey of You and I' was released in January of this year. It's absolutely sickly sweet and likely to make your eyes roll at its unabashed bluntness. Coming from someone like Kodi Lee you know it's as pure and literal as it sounds. It is time to give it a little Effervescence this week. Thank you to every mother out there for what they do. It is probably the most pure and beautiful song I will ever put in one of my silly charts.
What an insane week!

Ahoy, Alex,
Thank you so much for all the detail and questions again. It is most graciously appreciated.
Yeah, the Liam and John Squire album came out last week and then a new video emerged for the first track on the album. I was already considering a few album tracks. I am really enjoying 'You're Not The Only One'. It has been added to my playlist rotation and comes up from time to time so I would not be surprised to see it in Effervescence at some point.
I am sure you're happy to see 'Make You Mine' with a big jump this week? Honestly, I think it may not be done quite yet as my enjoyment of the track is still increasing.
Nate Smith - 'Bulletproof' was entering Effervescence all week. It fell out very recently when I suddenly remembered that International Women's Day was tomorrow. 'Lady Marmalade', 'Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves', and ' Bang Bang' were suddenly in need of massaging into the rundown. You can be assured that Bulletproof is very much on my radar and if it doesn't enter next week, it'll be damn close again. I am really enjoying it each time it comes on. I see at as a quasi successor to 'White Horse', though I do not think it gets quite as glorious as said track.
Oops, I was investigating the 'Notify Me When I receive comments/responses and sent that previous message without finishing it.
Your comment on my prior chart, I was confused about who 'Zyra' was. I see the comment now, you were absolutely right, I did not have any kind of notification for the message/response so I missed it. Zara Larsson sounds perfectly good to me. I don't really ask myself if I can hear an accent when I listen to it. Okay, just put it on again to listen specifically for this. I don't think it is anymore, in fact probably so less than I can hear Manchester in Liam Gallagher, or hearing Scottish in Lewis Capaldi. etc. It is probably there but not something I bring to the forefront of my awareness. It may be a subconscious attraction I have to the songs of hers I like? In fairness though, I believe it is far more to be with how 'boppy' and fun it is that gets me the most. I like music that makes me feel better.
Thank you once again for your interest and thoughts.
Have a great weekend!
Hah! Zyra is the one of my favourite champs in "League of Legends". I didn't know how to pronounce these foreign names. When I heard "Zara"… Oh, it sounds like Zyra!
Yeah, you are right about Liam. He sings in classical English. It is different than in U.S. But he is a native speaker of his language. I have long been accustomed to the British 'accent'. I am thinking about stopping listening to foreign songs in English, and then focusing on finding more new songs of American and British singers. What do you think about this idea? Don't you think that you and I will have more matches in our personal charts?
> I am sure you're happy to see 'Make You Mine' with a big jump this week?
Yeah, yeah, that's right! She is an American singer and sings in her native language. 😄
But I like this song and arrangement. Thanks to Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 for the appearance of this song in my tiny life. 😁
Thank you for detailed answer and wishing a great weekend too!
Ahoy, Sergej!
Hope you're doing well!
Thank you do much for stopping by. Glad you're enjoying the feminine power anthems this week! Up for a few Irish bangers next week? Also, great to see someone calling out Linkin Park. The rare rock songs rarely get any love in their mostly brief chart runs.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead!
Ahoy there, Maxon! 👋
"Oasis" released new single? Nice! Waiting for #4 "Raise Your Hands" on European charts.
Glad to see the songs from the past.
Support to: #3 "Never Be Alone"; #5 "Rim Tim Tagi Dim"; #6 "Beat of Your Heart"; #7 "Dizzy" (But it was a little bit unexpected); #11 "Lady Marmalade" (Also good in "Labelle" & "All Saints" versions); #12 "Love Hurt Repeat" (This is unbelievable, but I met this song only this week in European chart); #13 "Fighter"; #14 "Training Season" (Okay, alright, I haven't erased this song from my playlist yet); #18 "Make You Mine"; #22 "Lovers in a Past Life"; #25 "Waking Up"; #31 "Murder on the Dancefloor" (Okay, I'm still remembering your story); #33 "Bang Bang" (I very like the music video of this song); #36 "Mars To Liverpool" (I hoped that this song will get more weeks, but alright anyway).
Press F to: "Beautiful Things"; "All Night Long"; "Houdini" (Bye-Bye-Bye); "Cara Mia"; "Akhiyaan Gulaab"; "Deep in Your Love".
Where is Nate Smith? Or you changed your opinion about him?
Are you not subscribed to e-mail notifications? I asked you about Zyra in the comments of your previous chart.
Good luck and have a good mood! 🤝
