Adele her comeback single “Easy on Me” holds a big third consecutive week at Number 1. The song has logged over thirty streams this week, easily holding its place atop the chart. The single debuted at Number 1 two weeks ago with the highest opening figures of the year so far. Adele fends off growing competition from Sam Fender’s “Spit of You”, which rises to second place this week. The song is Fender his second single to peak at Number 2, following “Will We Talk” in 2019. Earlier this year, the British singer-songwriter topped the charts with “Seventeen Going Under” for one week. Although Elton John & Dua Lipa’s “Cold Heart” dropped to third place, its success has remained stable, supported by the release of John’s new album The Lockdown Sessions.
Kylie Minogue and Years & Years leap nine places to Number 10 with their disco hit “A Second To Midnight”, taken from Minogue’s upcoming re-release of Disco. The new single is Minogue her twenty-fifth Top 10-song on this chart, ever since she the charts first started in 1995. Earlier this year, the Australian icon scored her first Top 3-hit in nearly ten years with “Real Groove”, which featured Dua Lipa. This time, Minogue is aided by Years & Years’s Olly Alexander. He previously scored a platinum Number 1-hit with “King”, but has failed to reach the Top 10 ever since. Kylie & Olly previously collaborated on “Starstruck (Remix)”, which peaked at Number 19, but dropped off the charts rather quickly after its initial release. “A Second To Midnight” is already proving to be the bigger hit, having been streamed over forty-two times already.
Dutch singer Yade Lauren scores the top entry of the week with “In De Nacht”, shooting straight to Number 14. It marks Yade her first single since she left her original label Topnotch and went independent. She signed with the label two years ago and has since then released the acclaimed single “Papa” and her debut studio album Reflecties. Last year, Yade Lauren scored a massive hit with rapper Kevin on “Als Ik Je Niet Zie”, which peaked at Number 2 in the Streaming Top 100 and at Number 10 on my personal list. Her newest song “In De Nacht” is already becoming a big streaming success as well, having peaked at Number 2 on the Dutch Spotify Top 50 behind Adele’s “Easy on Me”, and it has already amassed over 2.7 million streams.
Further down at Number 25, Joel Corry and Mabel’s new collaboration “I Wish” enters the list. Hit producer Joel earns his fifth Top 40-hit, following the massively successful “Head & Heart” and “BED”. “I Wish” is British singer Mabel’s seventeenth Top 40-hit and follows “Let Them Know”, which reached the Top 5. At Number 36, The Hague’s pop sensation Goldband score their long overdue first Top 40-hit with “Noodgeval”. The Dutch group previously scored cult hits with “Witte Was” and “Alles Kapot”, which led to universal acclaim and growing national success. Although I have been a small fan for some time and their album Betaalbare Romantiek is one of my most-listened-to albums, Goldband have not entered my own Top 40 till this week. “Noodgeval” breaks away, aided by big streaming numbers and in support of their upcoming headlining tour.
To celebrate the release of Ed Sheeran his fifth studio album =, I decided to take a look at the singer his highest-scoring entries on this chart. The Suffolk-born artist is one of the biggest recording artists of all time, having amassed over 3.9 billion streams in the United Kingdom alone. On this chart, Ed Sheeran has scored twenty-nine Top 40-hits, of which fourteen peaked inside the Top 10. His second studio album, X, spawned two Number 1s: “Sing” and “Thinking Out Loud”, of which the latter became his highest-scoring single on my chart. More success followed with his subsequent albums, including another chart-topping hit with “Castle On The Hill”. His more recent songs have failed to match the insane success of its predecessors on my list, but were worldwide million-sellers nonetheless. = its lead single “Bad Habits” was another Top 10-single for the singer, peaking at Number 7.
