Chart

After narrowly missing the top spot for three consecutive weeks, The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” finally climbs to Number 1

After three consecutive weeks at Number 2, The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber finally climb from second to first with “Stay”, taking home the Number 1-position. The single is Australian rapper The Kid LAROI his first chart-topper, although his previous song “Without You” only narrowly lost out on the Number 1 to Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license”. The song is Canadian popstar Justin Bieber his sixth Number 1-song, following previous successes such as “What Do You Mean?” and “Boyfriend”. The track’s surge to the peak was aided by incredible streaming numbers and playlisting. The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber end Dutch rapper Antoon his seven week-reign atop the chart with “Hyperventilatie”, which remains the longest-running Number 1-song of 2021 so far.

Arguably this year its biggest breakout star, Olivia Rodrigo, continues her streak of Top 10-hits as the fourth single of her hit-album SOUR “traitor” moves into the Top 10. Although the single has not received a proper music video (yet), it has been sent to US radio formats and has already amassed over 317 million streams on Spotify. The song its success is aided by the vinyl release of SOUR, which was the biggest-selling vinyl album of the Netherlands this week.

The highest debut of the week is scored by Doja Cat with her umpteenth viral hit “Woman”. The song is the opening track of her third studio album Planet Her, which was released to major success and spawned the Number 1-hit “Kiss Me More”. The afrobeats song is a natural fit on Planet Her, as the song celebrates femininity and all the roles women inhabit. The song its new success is aided by its popularity on TikTok and Spotify. “Woman” is Doja Cat her twelfth Top 40-hit on this chart, debuting at Number 22.

With “traitor” in the Top 10 and “good 4 u” steadily in the Top 20, Olivia Rodrigo adds another hit to her catalogue with “brutal”; the fifth official single of her debut album SOUR. The song was promoted with an epic music video and has already amassed over 188 million streams on Spotify. Rodrigo debuts at Number 29 this week. English singer Sam Fender also continues his success as “Aye”, the follow-up to the Top 3-hit “Seventeen Going Under”, opens at Number 34 this week. Joel Corry, Jax Jones, Charli XCX and Saweetie debut with “OUT OUT”, a new dance song that samples Stromae’s 2009 worldwide hit “Alors on Danse”, entering at Number 37. Closing off the Top 40, Canadian pop talent Shawn Mendes makes his comeback with the summer-inspired song “Summer of Love” featuring Puerto Rican singer Tainy.

25 years ago, the all-conquering Spice Girls hit Number 1 with their debut single “Wannabe”, one of the most iconic songs of all time. The song opened at Number 18 in August 1996 before jumping straight to Number 1 in the following week. “Wannabe” spent ten incredible weeks at Number 1, unchallenged, until the girls’ their own “Say You’ll Be There” took over the crown. When Geri Halliwell left the Spice Girls in 1998, “Wannabe” resurged and re-entered atop the chart, making it one of the longest-running Number 1s of all time. Having amassed more than 196.000 points, The Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” is the highest-scoring single of all time, a record that has been undefeated since 1997. This, however, was only the beginning as the girl group would go on to score eleven more Number 1s, including best-scorers such as “Spice Up Your Life”, “Who Do You Think You Are” and “Viva Forever”. To celebrate this special occasion, I have decided to list the Spice Girls’ highest-scoring singles to date. To see the list, check the Top 12 below this chart.

Hey Link! :)
It's awesome seeing 'Stay' as the new #1 after an incredible few weeks at the top for 'Hyperventilatie'.
Elsewhere, I love the debuts for 'Woman', 'Brutal' & 'Out Out'!

Hey Link! Too bad Antoon is no longer at the top. But I'm very happy that Sam Fender made it to the top 3! I'm curious if the single can rise even further. Also nice to see: the fast risers for Olivia Rodrigo and Mart Hoogkamer. Good chart as usual. Have a nice week!
