After an initial slow start, “Love Tonight” by electronic duo Shouse makes an incredible jump to Number 1. The song was originally released in late 2017 in their native Australia, after which it slowly gained traction in Eastern European countries and at Burning Man 2019. Big success came when the song was remixed by famous DJs such as David Guetta and Oliver Huntemann. The Australian duo, comprised of good friends Ed Service and Jack Madin, have now achieved worldwide chart success and went viral on TikTok. “Love Tonight” dethrones The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay”, which only spent one week atop the chart. Success is aided by strong streaming numbers and playlisting.
Dutch folk singer Mart Hoogkamer enters the Top 10 with his national hit “Ik Ga Zwemmen”, which has undoubtedly become the song of the summer in The Netherlands. After initial success with his core fans, the song gained popularity on Spotify and YouTube, especially among many students during recruitment week. Last week, “Ik Ga Zwemmen” topped the official Dutch Top 40. On this list, Mart Hoogkamer moves up two places into the Top 10, peaking at Number 9. This marks the singer his very first Top 10-entry on this chart.
The highest debut of the week is scored by Norwegian singer-songwriter Sigrid and her newest single “Burning Bridges”, taken from her upcoming sophomore studio album. She previously enjoyed chart success with “Mirror”, which peaked at Number 12 in June earlier this year. Some of her others hits include the Number 1-hit “Strangers” and the Top 10-single “Don’t Kill My Vibe”. Sigrid her new song “Burning Bridges” is aided by growing streaming numbers and an incredible live performance at Reading and Leeds Festival. The new song debuts at Number 21.
At Number 26, Elton John makes his first appearance in the Top 40 since his 2005-song “Ghetto Gospel” with his newest song “Cold Heart” remixed by PNAU. He is not alone on the track, as he is aided by hit-phenomenon Dua Lipa. At Number 33, Dutch big-name rappers Ronnie Flex, Yssi B and Lil Kleine debut with “UHUH” produced by $hirak; the man behind big Number 1- hits such as “Drank & Drugs” and “Krantenwijk”. English up-and-comer Maisie Peters rounds off the Top 40 with “Psycho”, taken from her debut album You Signed Up For This, which was released earlier this week and was one of my most-streamed albums of the week.
Twenty years ago, the original formation of Belgian girl group K3 scored their second Number 1-hit with the incredibly catchy “Alle Kleuren”. The girls previously peaked atop the chart with “Heyah Mama” in 2000. That week its chart, however, is also remember for another reason, as that week the entire Top 3 was occupied by girl groups. With K3 ahead in first, Destiny’s Child placed second with their iconic single “Bootylicious”, while Atomic Kitten fell back to Number 3 with their cover of the Bangles’ “Eternal Flame”. In no other week were girl groups so strong. While girl power was dominating, Spice Girl Emma Bunton debuted at Number 9 with her hit song “Take My Breath Away”, the follow-up to her Number 1-hit “Take My Breath Away”, and future worldwide pop star Alicia Keys scored her first Top 10-entry with “Fallin’”, which later topped the chart for three consecutive weeks. I love love this chart like the brand new number 1 obviously Stay was blocked for a while i guess it's time it fell off from the top spot even though it's short time. I like seeing new entries from Elton John and Dua, Sigrid .l like the small gain of Summer Love &Rumors sadly the last latter its quickly slowing down on the charts but i guess pop radio will be spinning it heavily. Interesting Wild side 7 weeks has endured in your chart .the video is good. I always adore your charts a lot and your playlists are hot.
Hey Link! :)
I absolutely adore seeing 'Love Tonight' as the new #1 this week.
The debuts for 'Burning Bridges', 'Cold Heart' & especially 'Psycho' are all amazing too (the latter is now contending with 'Heartbreak Anthem' to be my favourite song of the year so far!).
Awesome chart as usual.
Have a nice week!
