Barbiemania has taken over the globe by storm. The new Barbie film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling has experienced a record-breaking opening weekend at the box office, earning $194.3 million. Its soundtrack also impacts this week’s personal chart. Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice their “Barbie World” re-enters at #16, an all-new peak, and Billie Eilish’s her “What Was I Made For?” soars to #21. Its lead single “Dance the Night” by Dua Lipa peaks at #2, earning the British star her seventh #2-single to date. It is blocked from Peggy Gou’s “(It Goes Like) Nanana”, which enters a fourth non-consecutive week atop my list. It is on track to become the song of the summer.
Anne-Marie moves into the Top 10 with her new country single “Unhealthy”, peaking at #9 on my chart this week. The single is taken from her upcoming third album of the same name. It marks Anne-Marie her fourth Top 10-entry on my chart, following “Rockabye”, “Friends”, “2002” and “Kiss My (Uh, Oh)” with Little Mix. The country-infused “Unhealthy” features pop-country legend Shania Twain. Between 1998 and 1999, Twain racked up three huge Number 1s and conquered the globe with her multi-platinum Come On Over. She is credited as country’s first successful cross-over star, paving the path for acts such as Taylor Swift years later.
As Shania Twain enters the Top 10 with Anne-Marie on “Unhealthy” this week, the country-pop singer claims a rare record: she becomes the artist with the most time between Top 10-entries. Her last Top 10-single was 2002’s smash hit “I’m Gonna Getcha Good” 20 years, 7 months and 13 days ago. The record was previously held by Elton John when “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” became his first Top 10-entry in 18 years, 7 months and 15 days in 2021 with Dua Lipa. To celebrate this incredible achievement, I have decided to rank the acts who had spent the most time between Top 10-hits. With Shania Twain and Elton John in first and second place, respectively, Dutch duo Acda & De Munnik rank third with their surprise comeback “Als Ik Je Weer Zie”, which was their first Top 10-entry in over 18 years. Other memorable comebacks include Michael Jackson’s posthumous hit “Love Never Felt So Good” in 2014, Brandy and Destiny’s Child their mash-up smash “The Girl is Mine” and Michael Bublé last year’s Christmas single “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”.
British rapper Stormzy scores the highest debut of the week with his collaboration “The Weekend” with Raye. Stormzy is an absolute legend and one of UK’s biggest artists of all time. His 2019’s “Vossi Bop” became a UK chart Number 1 and his set at Glastonbury was widely acclaimed. British singer Raye has also recently earned a UK chart-topper with “Escapism” – which also topped my personal list – and was one of this year’s Glastonbury’s biggest names. They come together on “The Weekend”, which debuts at #24. It marks Stormzy his first Top 40-entry in over three years, while it follows up Raye her Top 10-peak “The Thrill is Gone”.
DJ and producer R3HAB debuts at #37 with “Rock My Body”, which heavily samples Sash! his 90s hit single “Ecuador”. It features Romanian pop icon Inna, who makes her first Top 40-appearance in nearly ten years. Between 2009 and 2013, she scored some big summer hits across Europe and on my personal list, with her highest-scoring song being “Hot”. Further down, Travis Scott, The Weeknd and Bad Bunny debut at #40 with their collaboration “K-POP”. Together, these artists have collected over forty Top 40-hits. It has already captured viral attention and became a streaming success.
