Barbiemania continues to flood the list, supported by Barbie’s record-breaking box office performance. Peggy Gou stays at Number 1 for a fifth non-consecutive week with “(It Goes Like) Nanana”, but her reign is strongly challenged by three singles of the Barbie soundtrack. Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice their reimagining of Aqua’s 1997-hit “Barbie Girl”, “Barbie World”, moves up to the runner-up position. The original song also peaked at #2 back in the day. It marks Ice Spice her second Top 10-hit on my personal list, following her Number 1-breakout “Boy’s a Liar” earlier this year. Dua Lipa her “Dance the Night” drops to #3, only barely outperformed by her colleagues.
Billie Eilish her heartfelt “What Was I Made For?” moves up a whopping seventeen places to #4. Billie last appeared in my Top 10 following the cinematic release of No Time To Die, when her title single of the same name re-entered at #5. As her contribution for the Barbie soundtrack - produced by her brother Finneas and Mark Ronson - reaches a new chart peak, Billie Eilish earns her sixth Top 10-entry to date. Her single saw the biggest increase of all the Barbie singles, possibly hinting at another big increase for next week. Billie could be looking at her biggest smash since 2019’s “Everything I Wanted”.
Anne-Marie and Shania Twain continue to claim new heights with “Unhealthy” at #7. The country song is supported by the release of Anne-Marie’s third album of the same name. Last week, the single earned Twain her first Top 10-hit in over 21 years, setting a new record for the most time spent Top 10-entries. Further down, Troye Sivan continues to eye the Top 10 with his electric “Rush”, settling at #12 for now. It now matches with “There For You” and “My, My, My!” as Troye Sivan his highest peak ever. Taylor Swift moves up to #15 with her sleeper hit “Cruel Summer”, while Irish newcomer Jazzy enters the Top 20 for the first time with “Giving Me” at #20.
Post Malone scores the highest debut of the week with “Enough is Enough” at #23, taken from his new studio album AUSTIN. Ever since his chart debut in 2017, the American singer and rapper has steadily scored back-to-back hits. Highlights include the Number 1-smash “Circles” and last year’s collaboration with Doja Cat “I Like You”. His new single “Enough is Enough” is the follow-up to “Chemical”, which peaked at #9 and earned Post Malone his ninth Top 10-record to date. The upbeat rap song is supported by large streaming figures and the new accompanying album.
Further down, two other Barbie singles impact the chart. Charli XCX enters at #26 with the hyper pop-infused “Speed Drive”, which prominently samples Toni Basil’s 1981-smash “Mickey”. PinkPantheress debuts at #33 with “Angel”, earning the British new talent her second chart entry following her Number 1-breakout “Boy’s a Liar” featuring Ice Spice. Meanwhile, Calvin Harris debuts at #35 with “Desire”, his new collaboration with Sam Smith. The two previously worked together on the 2018 Number 1-hit “Promises”. Earlier this year, Harris scored a big Number 1-hit with Ellie Goulding on “Miracle”, which similarly saw the Scottish DJ working with someone he previously earned major chart success with. Finally, Belgian pop singer Pommelien debuts at #39 with “Erop of Eronder”. She has quickly become one of Belgium’s biggest stars, topping the national singles and albums charts simultaneously. She had a cross-over hit in The Netherlands with “Nu Wij Niet Meer Praten” along Jaap Reesema (my personal Christmas Number 1 of 2020), but bigger solo success has not happened for Belgium’s favourite popstar yet.
