Barbiemania takes over the Top 3 with Billie Eilish leading at #1

Barbiemania is absolutely unstoppable right now, occupying my entire Top 3 on this week’s chart. Billie Eilish leads at Number 1 with “What Was I Made For?”, moving up three places to the leading position. It marks Billie Eilish her second Number 1-hit on my personal list, following 2019’s “Bad Guy”. Since then, she has scored Top 5-songs with “Everything I Ever Wanted” and the title song of the latest James Bond film. “What Was I Made For?” is boosted by Barbie its impressive box office performance and a big increase in streaming figures. Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice follow closely in second place with “Barbie World”, while Dua Lipa steadily remains in third position with “Dance The Night”.

With a massive increase in streams, Irish new talent Jazzy – real name Yasmine Byrne – soars into the Top 5 with her breakout “Giving Me”. The hypnotic house track has been a hit in the making ever since its release earlier this year. It rose to Number 1 in her native Ireland in May before breaking the UK Top 3 in the following weeks. On my personal list, “Giving Me” was preceded by the minor hit “Make Me Feel Good” in collaboration with Belters Only. The song then slowly began climbing my personal list, finally breaking away all the way to #5 this week. It has been a long time since an Irish female solo act charted this high on my list – the last being Nadine Coyle with her debut solo song “Insatiable” in 2010.

Troye Sivan finally breaks the Top 10 for the very first time with “Rush”, which moves up to #9 on this week’s chart. Ever since his debut in 2014 with “Happy Little Pill”, taken from his acclaimed third EP, the Australian has been scoring steady streaming hits. He then established a strong queer following with “My, My, My!” in 2018 and the subsequent second studio album Bloom. With the new “Rush”, Troye Sivan finally reaches an all-time high, earning him his first ever Top 10-single on my personal list in his nearly ten-year-long career. The single is supported by a massive increase in streaming figures following Amsterdam Pride the past weekend, where alongside Kylie’s “Padam, Padam”, Troye’s “Rush” easily was the most-played song by any DJ.

Belgian newcomer Mentissa takes the top fresh debut of the week with “Mamma Mia”, entering at #24 this week. The 24-year-old young singer-songwriter – real name Mentissa Aziza – rose to national fame after competing in the first season of the Voice Kids Flanders. She then competed in the tenth season of the Voice of France, where she finished third. Mentissa her French singles quickly established a devoted fanbase, which has now helped her break the Belgian and Dutch markets. On my personal list, Mentissa earns her first Top 40-hit. It has been a long time since Belgian female solo artists have had success on my list – this week there are two! Pommelien Thijs, although in Dutch, charts a few places lower at #36 with “Erop of Eronder”.

Further down, the Barbie soundtrack claims a sixth hit single as Karol G her “WATITI” debuts at #26. Earlier this year, she had breakout success with Shakira on “TQG”, which peaked at #9 and became her best-performing release to date. Doja Cat enters at #34 with “Paint the Town Red”, the second single of her upcoming fourth studio album. It was preceded by “Attention” which, despite its high debut at #14, underperformed and then quickly fell off the charts. The new “Paint the Town Red” earns Doja Cat her nineteenth Top 40-entry. Bebe Rexha and David Guetta team up again at #39 on “One in a Million”; the duo their fifth collaboration. This time, they rework David Guetta’s Number 1-hit “When Love Takes Over” with Kelly Rowland. They previously scored big when they reworked Eiffel 65’s “Blue” into the Top 5-smash “I’m Good (Blue)”.
