Billie Eilish stays at Number 1 following Lowlands + a big week for Charli XCX

The Barbie soundtrack remains a runaway success on this week’s chart. Billie Eilish leads at Number 1 for a third consecutive week with the emotional climax “What Was I Made For?”. The ballad is largely supported by Eilish her incredible live performance at Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands. Her nearly two hour-long set received critical acclaim and has been voted as one of the weekend’s highlights. Eilish does face competition from her fellow Barbie-colleague Dua Lipa, whom re-peaks at #2 with her lead single “Dance The Night”.

Further down, Charli XCX her contribution to the Barbie soundtrack, “Speed Drive”, reaches an all new peak at #9. The hyper pop-infused dance track is one of the soundtrack its stand-out releases, going viral on TikTok and accumulating millions of streams on Spotify. It resulted in a Top 10-hit in Charli’s native UK and her first Billboard Hot 100-entry in nine years. On my personal list, “Speed Drive” marks Charli her sixth Top 10-hit on my personal list and her first as a solo artist.

A few places down, Charli XCX also earns the top new entry of the week with her collaboration “2 Die 4” with American influencer-turned-pop diva Addison Rae. The TikTok-star first dabbled in music two years ago with the muddled “Obsessed”, which flopped horrendously. New music was not released, but did leak online, where it found a cult following. Last week, Rae finally gave the gays what they wanted and released the leaked demos as a five-track EP titled AR. Its lead “2 Die 4” features Charli XCX, who is an easy fit on the simple dance-pop beat. It debuts at #15 this week, earning Rae her first Top 40-hit while Charli collects her nineteenth.

Meanwhile, DJ producer Cassö debuts at #26 with the infectious and up-tempo “Prada”. It features Raye and rap collective D-Block Europe on vocals. It marks Raye her return to fresh EDM-pop collaborations which helped launch her career back in the late 2010s. American singer Madison Beer debuts at #34 with “Spinning”, the fifth single of her sophomore album Silence Between Songs. We last saw her inside my personal Top 40 in 2020 with the emotional Top 10-hit “Selfish”. American rapper Gunna rounds out all the new debuts at #36 with “fukumean”. It became his first Top 10-single on the Billboard Hot 100 and in the United Kingdom.
