Britney Spears aims for a second Number 1-hit, but is kept off the top by the Backstreet Boys

The Backstreet Boys earn a sixth week at Number 1 with their massive hit single I Want It That Way. The single is a big international hit, most notably topping the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official UK Charts. The Backstreet Boys needed almost five years to score a Number 1-hit, since they began charting on this list with We’ve Got It Goin’ On. Additionally, the Backstreet Boys receive a Platinum Certification for their Number 1-single. The song has amassed over 65,000 points. This is the Backstreet Boys’ fourth Platinum-certified release.

Chris Brann steps into the Top 10 under his Wamdue Project alias with King of My Castle. The song was originally released in 1997 as a downtempo song, but became a worldwide club hit in 1999 when it was remixed by house producer Roy Malone and featured on the 1998 album “Program Yourself”. The single is a big hit in American clubs, whilst being a cross-over hit in a few European countries. On this list, the song peaks at Number 9. This is Wamdue Project first Top 10-hit.

Nas scores the highest debut of the week. Nas is a fairly new American rapper, kickstarting his career his album “I Am…”. Nas debuts with Hate Me Now, which features Puff Daddy. The latter has already scored big hits on this list, including the Number 1-hit I’ll Be Missing You and other successes such as No Money, No Problems and No Time. Nas now scores his debut single with the help of Nas, entering at Number 20.

The Vengaboys receive a Gold Certification for We’re Going To Ibiza. The song only spent three weeks within the Top 10, but earned a whopping fourteen weeks within the Top 20. The Dutch group previously scored big Top 10-hits, such as Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!, Up & Down and We Like to Party (The Vengabus). The Vengaboys also achieved international success with their hit singles. As of this week, the group their latest release has scored over 40,000 points.

DJ Jean receives a Platinum Certification for The Launch. The single became the Dutch DJ Jean his breakthrough single, climbing the charts in the Netherlands and other European countries. DJ Jean his single peaked at Number 2 behind No Scrubs by TLC. His debut single is his first song to achieve a Platinum Status and promises for more hits. As of this week, The Launch has scored over 65,000 points.
