The Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears remain in locked positions

The Backstreet Boys earn a seventh week at Number 1 with their hit single I Want It That Way. The single has already received a Platinum Certification. The single is a big international seller, most notably topping the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official UK Charts. The Backstreet Boys needed almost five years to finally score a Number 1-hit, since they began charting on this list with We’ve Got It Goin’ On. The Backstreet Boys continue to face competition Britney Spears, who enters a second week in the second position with Sometimes.

Lou Bega steps into the Top 10 with Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of...). Lou Bega is a German hit singer who is finally having his breakthrough. His single is cover of the original by Cuban singer Dámaso Pérez Prado. Lou Bega has been making music for some time now, but Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of...) is his first ever proper single. His debut album “A Little Bit of Mambo” is also coming quickly. This week, Lou Bega scores his first Top 10-single, climbing up to Number 7.

Whitney Houston scores the highest debut of the week. The American singer is a pop icon, as she has been scoring hits since 1985. Some of her successes include Saving all my Love for You, I Will Always Love You and I Have Nothing. Whitney Houston entered this list as well since the charts started in 1995. Her highest-peaking song is When You Believe alongside Mariah Carey, which peaked at Number 3 and was certified Gold. Whitney Houston now opens at Number 15 with My Love Is Your Love.
