B*Witched challenges the Spice Girls’ reign

Two girl groups fight, as B*Witched and the Spice Girls go head to head for this week’s Number 1-position. The Spice Girls are the strongest contenders this week with Viva Forever. This is the single’s fifth consecutive week above the list. In total, the girls have spent fifty weeks crowning the charts with hits such as Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life.  The girls have spent more weeks above the list than any other act. B*Witched threatens to dethrone the girls, peaking at Number 2 with C’est La Vie. If they were to overtake the Spice Girls next week, it would be B*Witched their first ever chart-topper.

Madonna jumps into the Top 10 with Drowned World/Substitute for Love. The song is the third song from Madonna her newest album “Ray of Light”. The album already spawned the previous two hit singles Frozen and Ray of Light, which both peaked at Number 2. Her most successful release to date is Frozen, which amassed over 68,000 points. Madonna returns with the new double A-sided single, which was last week’s highest debut. Drowned World / Substitute for Love peaks at Number 5 this week. This new single marks Madonna her fourth Top 10-hit on this list.

Monica scores the highest debut of the week. Monica has had a widely successful year with her duet The Boy Is Mine alongside Brandy. The single spent five weeks at Number 1 and already amassed over 65,000 points. The song has been noted as Monica her best-scoring single to date, surpassing previous endeavors such as Don’t Take It Personal. Monica now returns with a single on her own, taken from her upcoming album “The Boy Is Mine”. The First Night debuts at Number 18 this week.

Pras Michel receives a Gold Certification for his breakthrough hit Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are). The single is Pras Michel his first proper hit as a solo artist, following his successful career with the Fugees. With the group, he scored the massive chart-topper Killing Me Softly. Pras Michel now ventures out on his own, scoring his first ever solo hit. As of this week, the song has amassed over 40,000 points. Additionally, Ghetto Supastar is also the breakthrough of feature artists Mýa and Ol' Dirty Bastard.

Robbie Williams has had a widely successful year already. He opened the year with the mega hit Angels, which was followed by the chart-topper Let Me Entertain You. That single receives a Platinum Certification this week. The single was Robbie Williams his second Number 1-hit on this list as a solo artist, while it was his third chart-topper if you also count his work with Take That. The song spent one week above the list. As of this week, Robbie Williams has scored over 65,000 points with this hit single. This certification further solidifies Robbie Williams his status as the best-scoring solo member of Take That, surpassing Gary Barlow and Mark Owen.

Ultimate Kaos receives a Platinum Certification for Casanova. The single became Ultimate Kaos their breakthrough on this list, spending one week above the list, The song fought off strong competition from Brandy and Monica’s The Boy Is Mine. Ultimate Kaos other singles are yet to enter the list. As of this week, the boys’ debut single has scored over 65,000 points.
