Doja Cat and SZA enter a third consecutive week at Number 1 with “Kiss Me More”, although the song does face strong competition from Silk Sonic - Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. Doja Cat and SZA are aided by big streaming numbers, which remain stable, and playlisting. The soulful “Leave The Door Open”, however, could overtake the girls next week, as they edge in on the Number 1-position this week. Meanwhile, ex-chart-toppers Snelle and Maan rebound to Number 3, intent on reclaiming the crown once more with their dance hit “Blijven Slapen”.
The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears” jumps back into the Top 10 this week, reaching a new peak at Number 5. The single had already peaked at Number 10 earlier this year, following the Weeknd his performance at the Super Bowl halftime show in February. The song has found new success following a new remix featuring pop icon Ariana Grande. “Save Your Tears” is the second collaboration between the Weeknd and Ariana Grande, following the 2014-Number 1 “Love Me Harder”.
Just in time for the release of her debut album Sour, Olivia Rodrigo earns her second Top 10-single with “déjà vu”. The song follows the success of her Number 1-debut single “drivers license”, which spent six consecutive weeks atop the chart and was awarded a double-platinum certification. The song is already a big success in multiple countries and is a big hit on streaming services such as Spotify. This week, “déjà vu” peaks at Number 9.
The highest debut of the week is claimed by Coldplay and their comeback song “Higher Power”. The song marks the group their first entry since the 2019-flop “Orphans”, which only peaked at Number 33 and became one of the group’s lowest-peaking releases to date. Their newest song is off to a great start, as it debuts at Number 20 this week. The song its success is also boosted by Coldplay’s stunning performance at the BRIT Awards last Tuesday night.
Aside from Coldplay their top debut, three other songs make their entrance this week. At Number 29, Dutch singers Bente and Maan debut with “Nee Is Nee”, a fierce song about consent and harassment. Bente makes her chart debut, not having entered the Top 40 before, while Maan claims her nineteenth Top 40-entry. At Number 34, Tion Wayne & Russ Millions make their chart debut with “Body (Remix)” – which was the first ever drill song to top the Official Singles UK Chart. The song has also become a big streaming hit in the Netherlands and various other European countries. At Number 40, Kris Kross Amsterdam, Conor Maynard and Shaggy debut with “Early In The Morning”.
British girl group Little Mix made history at the BRIT Awards last Tuesday night, as they became the first female group to win Best British Group. They dedicated the award to departed member Jesy Nelson and the Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud and other British girl bands who came before them. To celebrate the historical win, I have decided to take a look at the Top 15 highest-scoring singles by British and Irish girl groups. Atop of the list, we have “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls. Upon release in August 1996, the song became an immediate hit and spent eleven non-consecutive weeks at Number 1, ultimately earning diamond-status and becoming the highest-scoring song of all time. It was the first of the Spice Girls’ twelve consecutive Number 1s, making them the act with the most Number 1s of all time. The Spice Girls’ other single have also proven to be quite successful, as six other hit-singles place inside the Top 15. At Number 2, we have the 2008-hit “The Promise” by Girls Aloud, which was the band their eighth and final Number 1-single on this chart. At Number 3, the prementioned Little Mix place with their most-successful single to date “Shout Out to My Ex”, which debuted at Number 1 back in 2016 and became one of the best-scoring songs of the 2010s. Other notable songs include “C’est La Vie” by Irish girl band B*Witched and “Push the Button” by five-time chart-toppers the Sugababes. For the full Top 15 highest-scoring songs by British and Irish girl groups, see the list below this chart.
