Eliza Rose’s “B.O.T.A.” emerges victorious against Lewis Capaldi

It is a big week for underground dance as Eliza Rose and Interplanetary Criminal rise to Number 1 with “B.O.T.A.”. The song started out as a hit in the British underground dance scene, before crossing over to major festival, and most recently, the top of the UK Singles Charts. It marked first time a female DJ topped the charts in twenty years. “B.O.T.A.” also exploded on Glastonbury Festival, featured on sets by Shanti Celeste and Peach. Eliza Rose and Interplanetary Criminal face strong competition from Lewis Capaldi with “Forget Me”, who stays at second place this week. “B.O.T.A.” dethrones Goldband, who spent five consecutive weeks at Number 1 with “Noodgeval”.

The Gorillaz, Tame Impala and Bootie Brown move into the Top 10 for the first time with the hypnotic “New Gold”, peaking at #7 this week. The release is the second single of The Gorillaz their eighth studio album Cracker Island. It marks The Gorillaz’ their highest-peaking single to date, surpassing their other Top 10-song “Dare”, which peaked at #9 in late 2005. The featured Tame Impala earn their third Top-hit, while The Pharcyde’s Bootie Brown earns his very first. “New Gold” is supported by great streaming figures and strong playlisting.

Antoon scores the top debut of this week with “Klop, Klop”, flying in straight at #12. The Dutch singer and rapper has been a major chart success since last year, scoring back-to-back hits and dominating the Dutch Spotify lists. On my personal list, Antoon broke through with the sleeper single “Hyperventilatie”, which spent seven consecutive weeks atop the chart. He then scored two more Number 1s early this year with “Vluchtstrook” and “Hallo”. Antoon now returns with the instantly catchy “Klop, Klop”, which he wrote and produced with longtime collaborator Big2. Overall, “Klop, Klop” marks Antoon his milestone tenth Top 40-entry.

A bit further down, Maan debuts with her newest single “Sowieso Overhoop” at #17. The new up-tempo disco song is taken from Maan her new and highly anticipated sophomore album Leven. The album has already spawned the Number 1-hit “Blijven Slapen” and the Top 3-hit “Naar De Maan”. It continues the trend of catchy yet simple dance-pop songs that have become Maan her trademark. She has become one of the most successful acts to emerge from The Netherlands on my personal list, holding the record for the Dutch artist with the most weeks spent at Number 1 (22 weeks). Overall, her newest song “Sowieso Overhoop” marks Maan her twenty-third Top 40-entry and it is largely supported by strong playlisting. With her new album Leven out today, the song could reach an even higher peak next week.

Meanwhile, Mimi Webb debuts at #34 with her latest song “Ghost Of You”. She’s had a very successful year so far; topping the charts with “House On Fire” and scored a sleeper hit with “Goodbye”. Further down, Jessie Ware re-enters the list with the energetic disco-anthem “Free Yourself”, which has snuck its way back. The song re-enters at #39 this week. It previously peaked at #37 upon its initial release in July this year and followed up her Top 20-hit “Kiss of Life” with Kylie Minogue.
