Goldband debut at #1 while Jesy Nelson makes a Top 10-comeback

Boosted by the highest opening numbers of the year so far, Goldband debut at Number 1 with their new single “Rommel”. It marks the Dutch boy band their third chart-topping hit, following “Noodgeval” and “Stiekem” which were both certified at least quintuple-platinum. “Rommel” is taken from their newest EP of the same name, which details the band their struggle with addiction. It was my personal most-streamed single of the week, having amassed more than 100 streams, a very impressive feat. They also outstream their nearest competition three to one. Goldband their synth-hit “Rommel” dethrones Belgian-Dutch cross-over “Wat Wil Je Van Mij” by Metejoor & Hannah Mae, which spent one week at Number 1. Goldband their collaboration “Stiekem” with Maan also benefits from their Number 1-debut, earning a sixteenth week inside the Top 3.

SZA’s worldwide hit single “Kill Bill” moves back up in the Top 10 following a new official remix with Doja Cat. The song has been the stand-out release of SZA’s second studio album S.O.S. It topped several charts across the globe, while on my personal list it has peaked at #2. It is currently on track to become the most-successful post-S.O.S. single, only bested by 2020’s “Good Days”. The new remix with Doja Cat lifts “Kill Bill” back up to #5. It marks Doja Cat her eleventh Top 10-hit on my chart. She previously enjoyed Number 1-success with SZA on “Kiss Me More”.

Back in 2021, Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson released her debut single as a solo artist, “Boyz” featuring Nicki Minaj. Although it debuted at Number 1 with impressive opening figures, it quickly fell off my personal chart. Reception was mixed to say the least, as the music video caused controversy due to allegations of blackfishing and cultural appropriation. Since then, Nelson her supposed debut album was delayed and no other singles were released. This week, the Little Mix-singer makes her official comeback with “Bad Thing”. It sees Nelson completely departing from the sound heard on “Boyz”, in stead opting for a Bond-inspired jazz fusion echoing Billie Eilish. Its music video sets to raise awareness on domestic abuse and has received positive reactions online. “Bad Thing” debuts at #6 on my personal list this week, earning Jesy Nelson her second Top 10-hit as a solo artist.

Aside from Goldband and Jesy Nelson their top debuts, American singer and songwriter David Kushner makes his first ever appearance at #14 with “Daylight”. The Los Angeles-based young talent went viral in early 2022 with “Miserable Man”, resulting in worldwide chart success. He then released his debut extended play Footprints I Found, which received over 500 million streams on Spotify. The new single  “Daylight” became a surprise overnight success, debuting inside the Top 10  on the Spotify Global chart with more than 4 million streams. It opens at #14 on my personal chart, earning David Kushner his first ever Top 40-entry – an incredible feat for a first timer.

Dutch pop favourite Flemming debuts at #24 with “Verleden Tijd”, his first release following his debut album last year. It marks his sixth Top 40-hit. Post Malone enters at #35 with “Chemical”, which serves as the lead single from his upcoming fifth studio album. It marks his first solo entry since 2019’s Number 1-hit “Circles” – in between he enjoyed Top 10-success with The Weeknd and Doja Cat. Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj round out the new debuts with “Princess Diana”. The song was originally included on Ice Spice her EP Like..?, but it has now been remixed to feature rap’s reigning queen Nicki Minaj. It marks Ice Spice her follow-up to the Number 1-smash “Boy’s a Liar”.
