Harry Styles scores a fifth consecutive week at Number 1 with “As It Was”. The lead track from Harry’s upcoming studio album Harry’s House is once again the most-streamed song of the week. With a fifth week atop the chart, “As It Was” is now the longest-running Number 1-single of 2022 so far, surpassing Antoon’s “Hallo” and Kris Kross Amsterdam’s “Vluchtstrook”, which both spent four weeks atop the chart. He faces new competition from Jack Harlow, whose “First Class” moves up to #2, becoming his first Top 3-hit on my personal chart. The viral hit samples Fergie’s 2007-hit “Glamorous”, which also coincidentally peaked at #2.
Boosted by growing streaming figures and viral success, Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” vaults up twenty-one places to #3. The Donna Summer-sounding track is the second single of her upcoming fourth album. It was preceded by “Rumours” featuring Cardi B, which sadly underperformed on both my personal list and the worldwide charts. “About Damn Time” is a return to form, and then some, as the single becomes her second Top 10-hit and her highest-peaking hit to date, surpassing “Good As Hell” [#9]. With her streaming numbers increasing each day, Harry Styles should seriously worry about losing the Number 1-position to his Brits-BFF.
Dutch dance-electro-pop group Goldband reach a new career milestone as their sleeper hit “Noodgeval” peaks at #10 this week, earning the boys their first Top 10-single. The plasterers-turned-singers from The Hague have been on a steady rise to fame with back-to-back cult hits, such as “Witte Was”, “Alles Kapot” and “Mijn Stad”. National critics have also been noticing the band lately; Goldband recently won the Album of The Year Award at the 3FM Awards and have been nominated for an Edison Award. Their success on my chart is aided by the incredible Betaalbare Romantiek Tour, which finished two weeks ago and received critical acclaim from fans and critics alike.
While “First Class” reaches a new peak at #2, Jack Harlow already lines up another hit single as his new single “Dua Lipa” debuts at #27 this week. The new song is taken from Jack Harlow’s new album Come Home the Kids Miss You, which was well received by fans but panned by critics. Most songs taken of the album have claimed success on Spotify, including “Churchill Downs” with Drake and “Dua Lipa”. The ode to the “Don’t Start Now”-singer has approved of the song as well saying: “I suppose it’s OK”, which has taken on a life of its own and went viral on TikTok.
At #37, British pop star Charli XCX scores a thrilling new entry with “Used To Know Me”. The single is taken from her hit album Crash, which previously spawned the Top 20-hit “Good Ones” and the Top 10-collaboration “Beg For You” with Rina Sawayama. Closing the Top 40 is Lady Gaga with “Hold My Hand”. The song is taken from the new Top Gun film, a direct sequel to its 1986 predecessor, which previously spawned Berlin’s international hit “Take My Breath Away”. It marks Lady Gaga’s first entry since 2020’s “Sour Candy” [#24] featuring Blackpink.
