Olivia Rodrigo returns to Number 1 with “good 4 u” for a fourth non-consecutive week

Olivia Rodrigo returns to Number 1 with “good 4 u”, earning the single a fourth non-consecutive week atop the chart. She briefly lost out to the crown position last week, as Dua Lipa’s “Love Again” debuted at Number 1, but has managed to reclaim the position following a close towards the top. Olivia Rodrigo also fights off competition from Galantis, David Guetta & Little Mix, whom reach a new peak at Number 3 with “Heartbreak Anthem”. Although Dua Lipa is knocked off the top after only one week, “Love Again” could overtake Olivia Rodrigo again next week, as her streaming numbers have remained stable.

Calvin Harris and Tom Grennan enter the Top 10 with “By Your Side”. It is Tom Grennan his second consecutive Top 10-hit, following his breakout hit “Little Bit of Love” [#3] earlier this year. The newest collaboration is Calvin Harris his highest charting single since 2019’s “Giant” [#10]. Some of the Scottish DJ his biggest hits include the Number 1s “We Found Love” and “One Kiss”, of which the latter was the highest-scoring single of 2018. Calvin Harris and Tom Grennan now peak at Number 10.

The highest debut of the week is claimed by Lorde with her highly anticipated new single “Solar Power”. The sun-kissed single marks a shift in Lorde’s musical discography, as her previous releases were mostly moody and discussed topics such as heartbreak, yet her newest song is an upbeat, breezy single about the simple pleasures of life. Lorde is no stranger to success, both major and minor, as her 2013-debut “Royals” [#2] was a runaway success and her acclaimed 2017-comeback “Green Light” [#13] became a sleeper hit. This week, Lorde enters at Number 15 with “Solar Power”, her highest charting single since the remixed “Homemade Dynamite” [#10].

Four other songs make their debut this week. At Number 20, Greek-Welch singer Marina (previously with the Diamonds) enters with “Venus Fly Trap”, the fourth single from her fifth studio album Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land which was released this week. It follows the Top 20-hits “Man’s World” [#8] and “Purge The Poison” [#11]. At Number 30, French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura enters with “Bobo”. She has previously scored big summer-hits, including the triple-platinum “Djadja”. At Number 37, Mimi Webb debuts with “Dumb Love”, the follow-up to her breakout-hit “Good Without”, which peaked at Number 17 and is still charting. At Number 40, Doja Cat narrowly debuts with “Need to Know” taken from her upcoming album Planet Her, which previously spawned the Number 1-hit “Kiss Me More”.

As Lorde finally makes her comeback with the summer-infused new single “Solar Power”, I’ve decided to take a look at Lorde’s single history on my chart. The New Zealand-born singer made her debut back in 2013 with “Royals”, which quickly became a platinum-hit, ultimately peaking at Number 2. Lorde her subsequent singles failed to match the success of its predecessor, although they were acclaimed by critics. In 2017, Lorde released her sophomore album Melodrama, which became a massive success and spawned the hit-singles “Green Light” [#13] and “Homemade Dynamite” [#10]. Lorde her newest song is off to a great start, aided by an amazing music video and growing streaming numbers. For Lorde her full chart history, check the list below this chart.
