Will Smith climbs to his first ever Number 1-hit with Men In Black. The American actor-singer is becoming a global sensation with his upcoming album “Big Willie Style” and the hit film of the same name “Men In Black”. Will Smith is not the only actor to become a singer, he follows successes such as actor Antonie Kamerling whom scored a Number 1-hit this year under the name Hero. Will Smith his newest hit dethrones Wereld Zonder Jou by Marco Borsato and Trijntje Oosterhuis, which spent five weeks above the list.
Meredith Brooks scores her first Top 10-entry with the in-your-face Bitch. The young American singer started her career as a member of the group The Graces. The girls scored a small hit on the Billboard 100 with Lay Down Your Arms but their other singles flopped horrendously. Miss Meredith Brooks left the group to pursue a solo career, debuting with her first single Bitch. The song is becoming a worldwide hit and Meredith Brooks’s proper breakthrough. After a seven week climb, Bitch peaks at Number 8 on this list.
The Verve score their first Top 10-enty with Bitter Sweet Symphony. The Verve is a small English alternative rock band who are already a big hit in their native country. The group scored big hits such as On Your Own and History. Their newest song is becoming their first international hit though, as Bitter Sweet Symphony tops the charts worldwide. The song uses as a sample of Andrew Loog Oldham’s orchestral cover of the Rolling Stones' song The Last Time. The song is acclaimed by critics worldwide and noted for being one of the 90’s best Britpop-hits. On this list, the Verve peak at Number 9 this week.
Shola Ama scores the highest debut of the week. The English singer started her career with this year’s You Might Need Somebody. The song went on to peak at Number 3, received a Gold Certification and scored over 55,000 points to date. Shola Ama returns with the equally catchy You're The One I Love, entering at Number 19.
