Supported by strong streaming figures and playlisting, Steve Lacy enters a second consecutive week at Number 1 with his breakout hit “Bad Habit”. The single has been a runaway hit upon release, reaching the charts in the United States and the United Kingdom. It is the young singer and guitarist his first ever Number 1-hit on my personal chart. Steve Lacy, however, faces tough completion from OneRepublic’s “I Ain’t Worried”, which reaches a new peak at #2 this week. The single, taken from the new Top Gun soundtrack, is OneRepublic their highest-peaking song since their 2013 Number 1-hit “Counting Stars”.
Steve Lacy and OneRepublic are not the only ones eying the Number 1-spot, as Rosalía moves up ten places to #3 with her summer-sounding “Despechá”. The song was first teased during the Motomami World Tour, which was shared across social media with some moments going viral. Upon its official release, “Despechá” received great critical reviews, with many calling it the Song of the Summer. On my personal chart, Rosalía has already scored a few big hits, including the Number 2-hit “Con Altura”. “Despechá” already marks Rosalía her highest-peaking solo song to date and her third overall Top 10-hit. If her streaming figures continuously grow, Steve Lacy could lose his lead position very soon.
Meanwhile, Rex Orange County returns with his new single “Threat”, debuting at #9 this week. From humble beginnings on Soundcloud, to scoring back-to-back hits, Rex has been a personal chart mainstay for some time now. Only this year, the British young talent released his second major-label album Who Cares, which spawned the Number 1-hit “Keep It Up”. His newest release “Threat” is just a one-off for the fans. Fans, however, were a bit divided over the song, feeling it’s too pop for the indie star. On my list, however, “Threat” is already a success and earns Rex his fifth Top 10-hit.
Further down, Tiësto & Charli XCX re-peak at #12 with their thrilling “Hot In It”. Japanese singer Joji “Glimpse of Us” continues to scale the Top 20, reaching a new high at #16 this week. Since the single went viral on TikTok, it has slowly become a major chart hit. Stromae and Camila Cabello peak at #19 with their duet “Mon Amour”, supported by growing streaming success. Harry Styles rounds out the Top 20 with “As It Was”, which has now spent twenty very successful weeks inside the Top 20 and is the highest-scoring single of 2022 so far.
The Brits are absolutely dominating the new entries. UK dance giants Joel Corry and Becky Hill join forces on “History”, which debuts at #23 this week. Joel Corry previously scored big hits with “Head & Heart” and “I Wish”, while Becky Hill stormed the charts with “Remember” ever since participating on the Voice UK. London-born house producer Eliza Rose debuts at #31 with the empowering “B.O.T.A.”, which is slowly transcending into the mainstream. British “Little Bit of Love”-singer Tom Grennan hits the list with his latest new single “All These Nights”.
