Effervescence - April 25th, 2024

Welcome back along to Effervescence!

After a couple of absolutely bananas weeks here on the chart, we sorta get a reset today as we begin to ramp up to the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 from Malmö, Sweden from May 7th to May 11th. There are a plethora of new entries invading Effervescence this week with all of the birthday/St. Georges Day celebrations and throwbacks inevitably departing.

Do you know the best thing when this happens? The number of new entries and chart climbers - how's that for positivity!

Noteworthy cultural notes for this week:

  • Just two weeks to go until the Eurovision Song Contest
  • The Amy Winehouse biopic 'Back To Black' is in UK cinemas with a worldwide release on May 17th
  • American rhythm and blues singer and pianist Clarence "Frogman" Henry passed away at the age of 87 on April 7th
  • American guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer and, founding member of The Allman Brothers Band passed away at the age of 80 on April 18th

Ahoy, Maxon!

Glad to see #38 "Good Luck, Babe" and #27 "Too Sweet". Yeah, it happened!

Very glad to see the greatest song from the past #40 "Back to Black".

The same case with #27 "Austin" as with your leader. She hasn't released an implicit version of this song, and I cannot listen on Apple Music.

And another song that has been added to my playlist is #3 "Simple Life". It also debuted on the European chart this week.
On the previous week it was #37 "Outside of Love".

I think you guess that my favorite now is #38 "Good Luck, Babe". 😁
This is a second American song that we both like after "Bulletproof".

Thanks for your new chart and have a good mood!

Ahoy, Alex!

"The greatest song from the past' is quite the statement! #1 for you soon then, no? I do agree that 'Back To Black' is Amy Winehouse's best track. I think 'Valerie' is great but just cannot get over how no one knows the original by The Zutons which to me is still superior though that is I'm sure just my music taste bias showing through.

Does Apple Music just not allow profanity in their music, or is this a setting you're modifying? It seems strange to me, god forbid what happens to a lot of hip-hop music. To Apple, I guess they just don't exist. Both 'Austin' , and 'Espresso' it's barely even noticeable to me, especially 'Austin'. Again, though maybe it's just me but they're hardly explicit tracks. I'd play them to my parents, to add context.

Glad you're enjoying 'Simple Life'. It's been a staple for the last couple of months and it will be interesting to see if it can stay in favor until after the Eurovision domination over the next two or three weeks to push it's peak any further.

'Good Luck Babe' is great. I look forward to seeing where that can go in the coming weeks too!

Thank you so much for the comment and enjoy your weekend!

I didn't understand what do you mean about "Valerie" by The Zutons. This song written by their vocalist Dave McCabe.
https://music.apple.com/us/song/valerie/211460079
But "Back to Black" written by Amy and her producers.
https://music.apple.com/us/song/back-to-black/1440856228
Where is an original and where is a cover?

I have a family subscription to Apple Music and the songs in explicit version are not available for me. I'm too young, haha! 😆😆😆
But I don't really like an explicit lyrics and I don't listen Future & Metro Boomin, J. Cole, Kanye West, Drake, Ty Dolla Sign, etc. This sound doesn't impress me at all. Not being able to listen an explicit lyrics helps me just ignore these artists.
I can use YouTube Music, but this is a different troubles. 😁
It would be better if artists released an implicit version of their songs, like Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Doja Cat, etc, are doing.

Ahoy, Alex!

Grrrrrrr, this site drives me nuts sometimes with it's timing out and Bad Gateway shenanigans! I already wrote this response once. Here we go again.

To clarify, I was pointing out that I struggle to truly connect with the Amy Winehouse cover of 'Valerie' not just because it is a cover but because the original is so overlooked that I'm sure most people think it's an Amy Winehouse original. The cover is great but I'm pretty sure this thing cam from a BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge cover. It's amazing the great history the format/show has garnered over the years.

I'm with you on explicit lyrics for the sake of being explicit and "edgy". There are times when blue language can accentuate a point or emphasize an emotion but this is not usually the case. Especially as you mentioned in rap and hip-hop which can be particularly vulgar just for the sake of it. A lot of angry people in the world.

I think artists that do consistently put out explicit tracks are better served if they also include an edit as they can control the edit then (not have radio stations make their own) plus like in the case with yourself reach a larger audience anyway.

Thank you for the comment.

Hey Maxon! :)

Glad to see 'Espresso' take a big leap to #1! I'm also loving the debuts for 'Austin', 'Too Sweet', 'I Can Do It With A Broken Heart', 'Liar' & 'Good Luck, Babe!'.

Good chart!

Ahoy, Piran,

'Espresso' just keeps gaining momentum. I think when it went in low due to the St Georges Day tracks I knew it was going to climb big this week. The perfect track to transition us all into a summer vibe!

Thank you so much for the comment and for stopping by!

Have an amazing weekend!

Hi Maxon!

Nice to see "Espresso" at the top, "Simple Life" reaching the top 3, "I Like The Way You Kiss Me" going to the top 5, the top 10 entries for "The Code" and "I Don't Wanna Wait", the big gains for "La Noia" and "My Oh My", the new peaks for "Loyal To Myself" and "Elevate", the return for "Europapa" and the debuts for "Troublemaker", "The Sound Of Silence (CYRIL Remix)", "Austin", "Too Sweet", "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart", "Liar", "For Life", "Good Luck, Babe" and "Back To Black".

Great chart!
Take care.

Ahoy, Sergej!

Appreciate you stopping by in your busy schedule.

Some of your picks getting some big appreciation now. You were definitely first on 'Simple Life' and 'La Noia' just to name a couple. The scent of Eurovision is getting strong around here and we're just getting started!

Thank you for the comment!

Hi!

Great to see Espresso at No.1 and great to see One Two & 3 climbing! Really great to see Eurovision take over even more! Especially We will rave, Liar, La noia and Doomsday Blue!

Great Chart

Take Care!

Ahoy, Cheese!

That's that me, Espresso! I think the world might be about to embark on the 'Espresso' train! Huge gains for it this week and it's looking good to make it a double up this next week too!

'One, Two and 3' is another track that, to me at least, it just has that summer vibe so it could well just keep bubbling around in the Top 15/Top 10 for many many weeks and not become old. Really sounds great in the sunshine! Glad you're feeling the track too. I think you're the first person to highlight it here.

Expect even more Eurovision to make the Effervescence chart this Thursday, then a complete takeover the following week! I still can't commit to what track is my favorite from 'We Will Rave', 'Doomsday Blue', and 'Rim Tim Tagi Dim'.

Thank you for stopping by and for your comment!
