WizTheMc and Tyla take “Show Me Love” to Number 1

TikTok has an undeniable influence on the modern pop landscape. Thanks to its accessibility, smaller unknown artists or underrepresented genres can suddenly grow viral and open new doors worldwide – with Afrobeats perhaps being the strongest example. Aya Nakamura brought the genre to Number 1 in 2018 for the first time. Nigerian singer Rema took the genre to newer heights with “Calm Down” in 2022, becoming the best-selling global hit of 2023 with more than 2 billion streams. The breakthrough of more Afrobeats artists followed, including Tyla, Ayra Starr and King Promise. This week, finally, WizTheMc takes “Show Me Love” all the way up to Number 1. He has been making music for years now and has toured through Europe with A$AP Rocky and Burna Boy. He is joined by the Berlin-based DJ collective Bees & Honey. The song was remixed to feature Tyla, who is arguably Afrobeats’ biggest global star right now. She broke through bigtime in 2023 with the viral “Water”, which peaked at #2 on my personal chart. More successful Top 40-singles followed, including the platinum-certified “Push 2 Start”. The new “Show Me Love” marks WizTheMc, Bees & Honey and Tyla their very first Number 1s. It is also climbing the worldwide charts with summer fast approaching, especially in the United Kingdom and other European nations. On this chart, they dethrone Pommelien Thijs, who held the top position for six consecutive weeks.

Following Eurovision last weekend, The Netherlands’ representative Claude re-enters my chart at #20 with “C’est La Vie” – reaching a brand-new peak. When voting closed, it finished 12th with175 points. The winner was Austria with the song "Wasted Love", performed by JJ. It was another controversial edition of the yearly musical competition. Claude his performance received positive reviews and was one of the big contenders, according to the bookmakers. With this return, Claude will hopefully make his entry a bigger hit on my chart. The biggest Eurovision song of all time on this list is Joost Klein his controversial “Europapa”. It held six non-consecutive weeks at #1 and was certified multi-platinum. It also ranks as one of the biggest songs of the 2020s yet. For a long time, Gina G held the best-scoring Eurovision song of all time with 1995’s Eurodance hit “Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit”. Only one other entry made it to Number 1 on here – namely Anouk with 2013’s acclaimed “Birds”. For a ranking of the biggest Eurovision entries of all time on my chart, check below this chart.

Meanwhile, with her solo song “Status Ingewikkeld” rising up the charts, Dutch star Zoë Tauran lines up her next big summer hit with “Summer Love” featuring Frenna. It is taken from her upcoming new studio album which is set to include her previous hit singles. Zoë Tauran and Frenna have collaborated before on 2022’s “Gebruik Me”, which was a streaming juggernaut, yet only a minor Top 40-entry on my chart. With “Summer Love” up at #27 as the highest new single of this week, they already bested their previous cross-over. Further down, Calvin Harris and Clementine Douglas team up for their take on a summer classic with “Blessings” at #37. It is already a success in the United Kingdom. Harris is no stranger to big summer hits – remember 2014’s aptly titled “Summer” or 2018’s best-selling “One Kiss” with Dua Lipa. Rounding out the new songs and the Top 40 all together are Suzan & Freek with “Batterij”.

Hi there Link!

Nice to see "Show Me Love" reach #1, "Love Me Not" at #2, the new peaks for "Little Bit closer" and "Tonight" inside the top 10, the new peaks for "Revolving Door", "Mystical Magical", "Undressed" and "Like Jennie", the return for "C'est La Vie" and the debut for "Blessings".

Great chart!
Take care.
