Dutch singers Snelle and Maan enter a sixth consecutive week at Number 1 with their hit-single “Blijven Slapen”. The two remain atop the chart very steadily, aided by big streaming numbers and playlisting. It now ties with Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license” as the longest-running Number 1 of 2021 so far. The chart-topper faces strong competition from “Leave The Door Open” by Silk Sonic. The duo – which is comprised of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak – shoots to Number 2 this week and could overtake the top spot next week. British breakout singer Tom Grennan also plans to claim the crown with “A Little Bit of Love”, which peaks at Number 3 this week.
Doja Cat and SZA enter the Top 10 with their sultry “Kiss Me More”. The song is the lead single of Doja her upcoming studio album, titled Planet Her. The song strongly reminds of Doja’s break-out hit “Say So”, which peaked at Number 1 on this chart a little less than a year ago. “Kiss Me More” is Doja her sixth Top 10-entry, following successes such as “Streets” and “34+35 (Remix)”. The featured SZA is no stranger to success herself. Earlier this year, the American singer reached Number 2 with “Good Days”, which is already one of the highest-scoring singles of the year. SZA's previous Top 10s include “All The Stars” and “Love Galore”. Doja Cat and SZA their newest “Kiss Me More” peaks at Number 7 this week.
The highest debut of the week is claimed by the primadonna girl Marina (previously and the Diamonds) with “Purge the Poison”. The new song is the second single of her upcoming fifth studio album Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land and follows the Top 10-lead single “Man’s World”. Lyrically, “Purge The Poison” is just as strong as its predecessor; the song discusses topics such as capitalism, climate change, and sexual abuser Harvey Weinstein. Some of Marina her previous accolades include five Number 1s, including the triple-platinum “Primadonna”. To read more about Marina her chart history, check the list below this chart.
Aside from Marina’s top debut, two other songs make their entry. At Number 30, British one-man-act Years & Years debuts with “Starstruck”. Years & Years was previously a trio fronted by Olly Alexander, but the group disbanded earlier this year and Alexander continued solo under the name Years & Years. His newest song “Starstruck” debuts at Number 30. A bit further down the list, “You” by Regard, Tate McRae and Troye Sivan makes its entrance. All three acts are no strangers to success on my chart; producer Regard scored big with “Ride It” in 2019, Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae was one of last year’s break-out stars with “You Broke Me First” and Australian pop icon Troye Sivan has been steadily scoring Top 40-hits since 2014. Their newest project debuts at Number 38.
In anticipation of her upcoming fifth studio album Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, I decided to take a look at Marina her chart history on my list. Since her debut in 2009, the Welch-Greek singer has racked up twenty-five Top 40-hits, of which most acquired a Top 10-position. Although her first studio album The Family Jewels was an impressive success, Marina reached even bigger heights with the release of her sophomore effort Electra Heart. The album spawned the Number 1-hit “Primadonna” – which was the best-scoring single of 2012 and achieved triple-platinum. Non-single songs such as “Lies” and “Bubblegum Bitch” reached the Top 10 as well. Marina her acclaimed third album FROOT became another success and saw the release of the Number 1s “FROOT” and “I’m a Ruin”. Recently, Marina has claimed success with the beautiful “Handmade Heaven” and fierce “Man’s World”. With her back-to-back hits and multi-platinum records, Marina is one of the biggest-scoring acts of all time. In total, she has earned five Number 1s, twenty Top 10s and thirty-two certifications.
